THE ROLE

Rotating Machinery Services (RMS Inc.) is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our Houston engineering and operations team. This position applies their academic training to the inspection, disposition, modeling and design calculations associated with assigned product or equipment lines. The Design Engineer will interface with experienced engineers for guidance and training. Daily responsibilities typically involve the review of drawings, review of inspection results, writing technical reports, performance of design calculations, electronic modeling of components, and presentation of results to senior engineering personnel. Individuals will also be technically involved in remote projects that may include travel to other physical locations in performing field investigation or inspections.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, develop, analyze and document product designs which meet the function, cost, reliability, manufacturability and safety requirements of RMS.
  • Assist experienced engineers while developing specialized engineering skills.
  • Perform engineering analysis for projects to include preliminary designs and calculations.
  • Review inspection reports and render engineering dispositions in accordance with established standards.
  • Perform equipment dimensional inspection.
  • Support design efforts for 2D and 3D CAD layout creation.
  • Create 3D CAD models utilizing SOLIDWORKS design software.
  • Effectively communicate information to colleagues.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude for machinery and ability to read and understand drawings, engineering standards, inspection reports and other service-related documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within assigned priorities.
  • Ability to work with supervision and make independent decisions consistent with knowledge/experience level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in speech and in writing.


REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • 4 year Engineering Degree (Mechanical preferred) 


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The position may be based in one of RMS’s South Houston, TX facilites.
  • This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required based on project needs.
  • Travel may be required. Travel time is expected to be 5 - 15%
  • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol test, and background check.
  • Ability to act professionally under stressful situations. 
  • Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs. (with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
  • While performing the duties of this position the employee may be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.

  • RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.
