Design Tree Engineering and Land Surveying is pursuing the addition of a Structural Engineer (EIT/PE) with 3+ years’ experience and strong knowledge of structural design principles, materials, and building construction practices to join our growing and dynamic structural team in the Minneapolis or St. Cloud office. Responsibilities
  • Assist structural engineering design and modeling teams from conception through design and construction, including site inspections.
  • Perform engineering design calculations by hand and using structural 2D and 3D structural analysis software.
  • Will grow into being the client contact for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate resource needs with Team Leader and effectively define expectations when delegating work to supporting staff.
  • Coordinate with all consultants, internal and external, to ensure needed information is provided in a timely fashion and all parties are aware of due dates and deliverables required.
  • Communicate regularly with Team Leader or Project Manager of any significant challenges, deviations from scope, budget challenges or incidents that occur on projects.
  • Provide and coordinate construction administration tasks, such as review of contractor submittals, answering contractor questions, construction observation, authoring punch lists and project close-out documentation.
  • Nurture existing client relationships and forms new client relationships.
  • Support the business development process through initiating, developing and assisting with proposals, meetings and interviewing with prospective customers, etc.
  • Actively participates in the development of staff through work on projects and serves as a trainer, mentor and resource for junior staff.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends as they apply to the applicable project, market types and strengthens design and management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects and teams concurrently.
  • Occasional travel to meetings and client sites for gathering information such as measurements of existing facilities. Site visits may require ladder, stair, and/or scaffolding climbing.
  • Is able and willing to work overtime on occasion to meet project deadlines.
  • Have a positive attitude, willingness to learn and be part of a team.
Required Qualifications and Qualities
  • Academics: B.S. and/or M.S degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering with a focus in structural engineering design with steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and lateral load resisting systems from an accredited institution.
  • License(s): PE or EIT with the ability to be professionally licensed in 2 years or less.
  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience as a structural engineer designing buildings.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles, materials, and construction practices.

  • Familiar with structural analysis softwares, like RISA and EnerCalc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Bluebeam.
  • Hard working, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision after the initial training period.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to produce high-quality, accurate drawings.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers and project teams.
  • Experience in project types such as K-12 Education, higher education, municipal, civic, multi-family housing, hospitality, faith, retail, podium structures, sports facilities, hospitality, water/wastewater treatment facilities, mass timber structures and warehouse distribution.
