What is a 3Cx Engineer?

A 3Cx Engineer is an IT professional who specializes in installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting the 3Cx phone system, a software-based private branch exchange (PBX) for Voice over IP (VoIP) communications. They handle tasks such as system deployment, troubleshooting, integration with other communication tools, and providing user support. 3Cx Engineers often work with businesses to ensure seamless internal and external communications, optimize system performance, and maintain security. They may also provide training to users and administrators on how to effectively use the 3Cx platform.

The roles often overlap in certifications and work environments but differ in their primary focus areas within the IT and telecom industries.

What are the main challenges a 3Cx Engineer might encounter when deploying phone systems for diverse clients?

A 3Cx Engineer often faces challenges such as integrating the 3Cx system with a variety of existing network infrastructures, ensuring compatibility with legacy hardware, and customizing configurations to meet specific client needs. Additionally, managing firewall and security settings to support seamless VoIP communication can be complex, especially in environments with strict IT policies. Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is crucial for troubleshooting issues and providing user training during and after deployment.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Network Engineer to serve as the dedicated, onsite technology resource at a prestigious high-end private club in the New York metropolitan area. Placed by us  as a managed services deployment, this individual will operate as the client’s primary IT presence, responsible for the daily health, performance, and advancement of all technology infrastructure on property.

This is not a traditional helpdesk role. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient engineer who understands the intersection of hospitality operations and enterprise IT, possesses hands-on network and VoIP experience, and can independently lead development projects that enrich the feature set of platforms integrated into the club’s environment. The candidate will interface directly with club management, booking teams, and operational staff while maintaining alignment with our service delivery standards.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Operations & Daily Support

  • Serve as the onsite IT point of contact, providing day-to-day support of all club technology infrastructure
  • Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN networks, switching, routing, and wireless systems
  • Manage and support VoIP telephony platforms, including call routing, auto-attendants, call queues, and device provisioning
  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 environments including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
  • Perform regular health checks, patching cycles, firmware updates, and infrastructure audits
  • Respond to and resolve IT support requests generated by bookings, events, and daily club operations
  • Maintain documentation for network topology, device inventory, configurations, and change logs

Bookings & Operational IT Support

  • Support IT requirements tied to the club’s booking and reservations systems, ensuring seamless technology integration with event operations
  • Coordinate with front-of-house, food & beverage, and events teams to fulfill technology requests in support of member experiences
  • Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity, A/V, telephony, and device issues during live events and daily operations
  • Provide onboarding and basic training for staff on technology platforms and new tools as deployed

Development Projects & Systems Integration

  • Lead and execute development initiatives aimed at expanding the feature richness of platforms currently in use at the property
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes, improve workflows, and integrate disparate systems for operational efficiency
  • Develop and maintain lightweight scripts or automation tools (Python, PowerShell, or similar) to support infrastructure management and operational tasks
  • Collaborate with engineering team and third-party vendors to scope, plan, and deliver integration projects
  • Manage vendor relationships for hosted platforms, telecom providers, and system integrators relevant to the client environment

Security & Compliance

  • Maintain a secure network posture through firewall management, VLAN segmentation, and policy enforcement
  • Monitor and respond to security alerts; support incident response protocols in coordination with our cybersecurity framework
  • Ensure that all systems align with PCI-DSS and applicable data security standards relevant to hospitality environments
Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in network design, administration, and troubleshooting: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF/BGP), switching, and firewall management
  • Solid working knowledge of VoIP platforms — SIP trunking, hosted PBX, and call management systems (e.g., Cisco, Mitel, 3CX, or equivalent)
  • Strong command of Microsoft 365 administration: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, and Azure AD/Entra ID
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise wireless systems (Cisco Meraki, Aruba, Ruckus, or equivalent)
  • Coding or scripting proficiency in at least one language: Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or Bash — for automation, API integrations, and development projects
  • Familiarity with hospitality-centric platforms and vendor integrations (PMS, POS, booking systems, A/V, BMS, or access control) is a strong plus
  • Experience with system integration methodologies, API management, and platform interoperability

Soft Skills & Attributes

  • Polished, professional demeanor appropriate for a high-end, member-facing club environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills — able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-directed and organized; capable of managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively within TAUTO’s remote engineering and support structure
  • Proactive problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications

Certifications

Technical Exposure

  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP
  • Microsoft MS-700, MS-102, or AZ-104
  • CWNA / Wireless certifications
  • Hospitality PMS / booking platform integrations
  • A/V system support (Crestron, Extron, Shure)
  • SD-WAN platforms (Meraki, VeloCloud)
  • ServiceNow, ConnectWise, or similar ITSM tools
