What is a $35 an hour RBT?

A $35 an hour RBT refers to a Registered Behavior Technician who earns $35 per hour for providing behavioral therapy services, typically for individuals with autism or other developmental disorders. RBTs work under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to implement treatment plans and collect data on client progress. This hourly rate can vary depending on location, employer, experience, and demand for RBTs in the area. Earning $35 an hour usually indicates a competitive pay rate for this role, reflecting higher demand or increased experience and credentials. Becoming an RBT requires specific training and passing a certification exam.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) earning $35 an hour?

To thrive as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), you need a high school diploma (or equivalent), RBT certification, and a solid understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles. Familiarity with data collection tools, ABA therapy software, and compliance with HIPAA regulations is typically required. Strong soft skills include patience, clear communication, and the ability to build rapport with clients, especially children with developmental challenges. These skills are crucial for implementing effective behavioral interventions and ensuring positive outcomes for clients in clinical or educational settings.

What are some common challenges faced by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) working at a higher hourly rate, such as $35 an hour?

Registered Behavior Technicians earning $35 an hour often take on more complex cases or work in specialized settings, which can present unique challenges. These may include managing more intense behavioral interventions, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, and adapting to varying client needs. Additionally, RBTs at this pay rate are often expected to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and independence, as well as keep up-to-date with best practices and ongoing training. Maintaining clear communication with supervising Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and clients' families is also crucial for success.

At The Place for Children with Autism, we're more than a therapy center. We're a team on a mission to help children with autism thrive. As a Behavior Therapist, you'll help children with autism develop new skills, celebrate milestones, and reach their full potential โ€“ all while jumpstarting your own career in behavioral health. We know that great care starts with supported, empowered therapists. That's why we provide you with fully paid comprehensive training to help you earn your Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification โ€“ That means no prior experience is required! In fact, most of our new hires are ready to sit for their certification within just 35 days of their start date.

What You'll Do

  • Work 1:1 with children between the ages of 2-9 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them learn communication, social, and daily-living skills.
  • Implement individualized therapy programs designed by our Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), collect data, and participate in team discussions around progress and strategy.
  • Bring energy, creativity, and passion โ€“ Using play, movement, and laughter to engage children while promoting skill-building and growth.
  • Partner with clients and their families in celebrating wins, problem-solving challenges, and promoting each child's growth.

What We're Looking For

  • Energetic team players who show up ready to engage and move with children throughout their sessions โ€“ This includes bending, squatting, lifting up to 30 pounds, and keeping pace with energetic young learners during play and activities.
  • A collaborator ready to take on multiple tasks and decisions at once โ€“ whether it's guiding a child, taking notes, or communicating with parents or clinical staff.
  • Positive role models with a commitment to safety by keeping the therapy environment organized, safe, and welcoming so every child can explore and learn comfortably.
  • Driven optimists who arrive to work on-time each day and are ready to learn, take feedback, and bring a can-do attitude to their teams and the families they serve.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and hold a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Have accessibility to reliable transportation with a valid driver's license and insurance, and be able to travel to other clinics to support when assigned.

What We Offer

Competitive Pay Based on Your Experience & Education:

  • High School or Associate's Degree: $17.00 โ€“ $23.00 per hour
  • Master's Degree (ABA, Psychology, Special Education): $18.00 โ€“ $24.00 per hour.
  • Eligibility to participate in the Shared Success Bonus Plan, with quarterly bonuses being paid after you obtain your RBT certification.

Generous Benefits & Perks

  • You'll enjoy 9 company holidays, 2 floating holidays, and the ability to accrue vacation, paid leave, sick leave, and wellness time โ€” all to help you balance work and life
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • Disability and Life Insurance
  • Up to six weeks paid Parental Leave
  • 401k with company match up to 3%
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Commuter Spending Account & Dependent Care FSA
  • Monthly wellness reimbursement up to $25
  • Up to 3 RBT exam and annual renewal fees are covered!
  • Pet Insurance โ€“ because fur-babies count too!

A Commitment to Your Growth

  • Structured onboarding and training from experienced clinical staff.
  • RBT certification is fully supported and paid for by The Place.
  • Transparent paths for advancement โ€“ many of our BT's have moved into Lead Therapist, Supervisor, or BCBA roles.
  • Development programs, feedback loops, and growth checkpoints are built into every employee's journey.
  • Partnerships with multiple universities (including the Chicago School of Psychology, National Louis University, Capella University, and more!), giving you access to courses that lead to certificates, or obtaining a bachelors, masters, or doctorate degree in Behavioral Therapy.

A Culture That Feels Like Family

  • Leaders who are accessible, supportive, and invested in your success.
  • An inclusive and collaborative company that values DEIB and ensuring that all voices are heard.
  • Opportunities to get involved beyond your role โ€“ Joining employee-led initiatives and committees that help shape our culture, plan events, and connect across our centers.
