Job description

Job Summary
Assists the Pharmacist by filing physician prescriptions for medications for oral, rectal, topical, and injectable use. Always works under the supervision of a Pharmacist. Enters patient demographic and insurance information into the computer system. Enters prescriptions onto patient profiles. Help maintain pharmacy and OTC inventory. Administer vaccines. Checks patients out at the cash register. Keeps the Pharmacy clean, neat, and organized. Customer service according to the Healing Model.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
  • Patient Data Management: Accurately enters and updates patient demographic, insurance, allergy, and other relevant information into the pharmacy's computer system, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulations.
  • Prescription Processing: Assists the pharmacist in filling prescriptions by preparing medications, attaching correct labels, and verifying accuracy to ensure patient safety across all age groups (newborn to elderly).
  • Dosage Calculations and Safety: Performs dosage calculations for prescriptions, recognizing appropriate dosage forms and variations for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Consults the pharmacist promptly with any doubts or discrepancies to prevent errors.
  • Pharmaceutical Care Support: Collaborates with the pharmacist to provide medication, drug information, and pharmaceutical services, tailoring care to diverse patient populations while prioritizing safety and minimizing healthcare errors.
  • Customer Transactions: Processes patient transactions at the register, verifying patient identity, charging accurately, and handling payments (cash, check, credit/debit cards) efficiently and securely.
  • Inventory and Supply Management: Receives, stores, and organizes incoming medication and supply deliveries. Monitors inventory levels, reorders supplies as needed, and performs scheduled quality control activities to maintain compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Pharmacy Maintenance: Maintains a clean, orderly, and organized pharmacy environment, adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
  • Customer Service and Communication: Answers phone calls professionally, directs inquiries appropriately, and guides patients within the store layout to enhance their experience. Maintains courteous, collaborative relationships with pharmacy and store staff.
  • Additional Duties: Performs other pharmacy-related tasks as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet operational needs.
