Job description

Reporting to the CFO, CCS, the Finance Director, System Pharmacy provides senior financial leadership for centralized pharmacy services across Henry Ford Health, including inpatient, outpatient, retail, specialty, infusion, and 340B programs. 

The Finance Director, Pharmacy leads enterprise pharmacy financial planning, including operating and capital budgets, reporting, variance analysis, and financial modeling. Serves as the primary financial advisor to the Chief Pharmacy Officer and pharmacy leadership, supporting system-wide strategy and investment decisions. Provides expertise in pharmacy economics, including drug purchasing, reimbursement, 340B, government programs, and payer dynamics, translating complex financial data into actionable business insights. Accountable for enterprise pharmacy financial performance, identifying opportunities to improve results, drive value, ensure regulatory compliance, and align pharmacy operations with organizational goals. Serves as the senior finance leader for pharmacy services across the health system. 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serves as the senior financial leader and strategic advisor to Pharmacy Service Lines, Ambulatory operations, and System Clinical Departments, contributing to the achievement of short- and long-term financial and business objectives. 
  2. Accountable for the financial performance, growth, and sustainability of system pharmacy operations, including monitoring revenue, expense, and margin performance across programs. 
  3. Leads enterprise-wide financial planning activities, including operating and capital budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial strategy for pharmacy services. 
  4. Provides financial analysis, reporting, and insights for system pharmacy programs, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clear communication of monthly and annual financial results. 
  5. Oversees the development, evaluation, and presentation of return on investment (ROI) analyses, business cases, and post-implementation reviews for pharmacy initiatives and strategic investments. 
  6. Prepares and presents financial reports, analyses, and recommendations to executive leadership, boards, and committees, including the Financial Oversight Committee. 
  7. Monitors financial and operational performance trends, proactively identifying risks and opportunities, and driving data-informed decision-making. 
  8. Partners with pharmacy, clinical, and operational leadership to develop and implement action plans in response to budget variances and performance gaps. 
  9. Collaborates with operating units and cross-functional teams to support the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial management activities. 
  10. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and financial policies, including 340B, Medicare, Medicaid, and payer-related guidelines. 
  11. Leads and supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of pharmacy programs and services, ensuring appropriate financial resources and effective execution. 
  12. Builds and maintains strong partnerships with leadership, support staff, and external stakeholders to support strategic direction and enterprise initiatives. 
  13. Leads within a highly matrixed environment, effectively navigating organizational structures to drive alignment and achieve system goals. 
  14. Communicates key financial and strategic information clearly and effectively to stakeholders across all levels of the organization. 
  15. Promotes a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability, identifying opportunities to enhance financial and operational performance.
  16. Serves as a leadership role model, fostering an environment that values teamwork, engagement, and employee development.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree with a finance, accounting, or business major required. 
  • MBA, CPA, or equivalent required. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience within management roles (340B or similar complex government experience preferred). 
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level financial strategy, planning, and performance management. 
  • Experience supporting or partnering with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives.
