General Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and versatile Software Developer to join our growing technology team. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical fundamentals who enjoys solving complex problems and building reliable, scalable systems in a fast-paced retail environment. We value adaptability, curiosity, and technical depth.
The role is responsible for designing, building, and guiding enterprise application solutions that support Family Dollar's business operations at scale. This role works closely with cross-functional teams of business partners, product owners, other development teams, and external vendors to translate business requirements into robust, secure, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions that uphold high standards for performance, security, and data integrity. The Developer plays a key role during intake, design, and delivery by helping to define solution architectures, integration patterns, and technical standards. The ideal candidate combines strong technical integration expertise with an understanding of retail business processes and data flows.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications that support retail operations
  • Design end-to-end application and integration solutions that are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards
  • Translate business requirements into clear technical architectures, designs, and integration patterns
  • Work across multiple systems and technologies, contributing to both new development and legacy system enhancements
  • Design, build, and implement clean, scalable, efficient, and well-documented code
  • Create and execute unit, integration, and UAT test plans; perform root-cause analysis on complex program failures
  • Ability to swiftly learn the Family Dollar's landscape of applications and tools.
  • Tune and optimize application and / or code performance
  • Complete code reviews and contribute to best practices and development standards
  • Support production systems and perform root-cause analysis to resolve production issues as needed
  • Translate technical design specifications to respective program language and ensure that the programs are developed in compliance with Family Dollar's design/coding standards.
  • Leverage cloud services (OIC), CI/CD pipelines, containers, and IaC tools to support deployments.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Merchandising, Store Operations, e-commerce, HR, Finance, Digital & Analytics, and IT teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including business analysts, IT operations, network architecture, and IT security to ensure solutions meet business needs and compliance and security requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Office work environment, 40+ work hours per week
Minimum Requirements:
  • 5+ years in systems integration, software development, or cloud-native application engineering, ideally supporting retail or consumer-goods environments.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more of the following: SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Forms and Reports, Pro*C, C, C++
  • Expertise in writing SQL and PL/SQL
  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines or platforms such as Informatica or Talend
  • Strong knowledge of REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, and one of the middleware/iPaaS platforms such as Sterling B2Bi, Informatica and Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC).
  • Strong understanding of software development principles, data structures, and algorithms
  • Experience working with relational databases and SQL
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and systems
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to communicate technical concepts to IT technical stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience working in environments with legacy systems and modern integrations
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and API testing tools (Postman, SoapUI, JMeter).
  • Experience creating and managing documentation (e.g. Design documents, Visio flow diagrams, etc.)
  • Experience with incident management tools such as JIRA and ServiceNow
  • Exposure to batch processing, transaction systems, or high-volume data environments

Nice to Have / Preferred:
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages or frameworks such as JAVA and SaaS solutions
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as OCI
  • Previous merchandising and / or retail experience

Projected Salary Range: $103,000-115,750
