Job description

Our client is a trusted and growing concrete-cutting and selective-demolition contractor serving commercial and industrial clients throughout the Raleigh-Durham region and surrounding areas. Known for their commitment to safety, integrity, and quality workmanship, they offer a wide range of services including flat sawing, wall and wire sawing, core drilling, hand-sawing, selective demolition, and concrete removal and repair.
 
As their team continues to grow, our client is seeking a hardworking and dependable Construction Operator in performing concrete sawing, drilling, cutting, and selective demolition services. This position requires the ability to operate a wide range of diamond and demolition tools, transport and maintain equipment, complete jobsite documentation, and uphold company standards of quality, safety, and professionalism.
Essential Functions
  • Safety
  • Follow safety standards, procedures, and legal regulations at all times.
  • Enforce PPE and OSHA compliance with less experienced coworkers.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (with assistant if there are two employees on site) on each job after reviewing work with site contact. 
  • Review safety plan to assess need for respirator use when performing tasks that require respirator use
  • Assess safety risks associated with working in extreme environments (take breaks in heat) 
  • Use tools and equipment when possible to minimize physical exertion and risk of injury
  • Report near misses 
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and professional manner at all times
  • Learn safe use of equipment with body positioning, keeping guarding on tools, using mounted drills when necessary, etc.
 
  • Truck, Equipment Operation & Job Execution
  • Transport equipment daily between the yard and job sites.
  • Operate a variety of concrete sawing and demolition tools (wall saw, wire saw, core drill, flat saw, hand saws, ring saws, compressor tools) in a proficient manner.
  • Perform accurate and efficient, cuts/drills according to job specifications.
  • Review work area for tools before leaving site
 
  • Truck and Equipment Maintenance 
  • Conduct equipment inspections and perform daily preventive maintenance checks on tools and vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot equipment or vehicle issues and utilize the Tyfoom app to communicate details with the shop and dispatch mechanic 
  • Be responsible for tools assigned to the vehicle by locking the truck when on jobsites (when possible), picking up repaired equipment and getting it back in the truck, etc. 
  • Work as a team member with physical duties of job
 
  • Documentation & Administration
  • Turn in receipts for purchases in a timely manner
  • Complete field tickets by answering all questions on chosen field tasks. 
  • Accurately report measurements 
  • Communicate job status, delays, or issues promptly to dispatch/field management.
  • Take pictures in CenPoint before and after work is performed for every job. 
  • Get customer signatures before work begins as required.
  • Respond to requests in a timely manner from administration about approving weekly time, filling out forms required for jobs, etc. 
  • Utilization of CenPoint: clock in and out at shop accurately. Clock in and out of jobs accurately. 
 
  • Professional Development
  • Participate in training to enhance technical skills and expand tool proficiency.
  • Learn how to utilize special tools for unique jobs
  • Manage personal expendables usage
  • Put tools back in truck in appropriate place. Keep truck looking professional inside and out. 
 
  • Communication & Coordination
  • Read task notes and assess what equipment may be needed for jobs before leaving shop for the day. Make decisions about getting replacement tools for repair items if needed. 
  • Participate in job status reviews with Dispatcher, field manager and estimator.
  • Provide accurate feedback on field performance, schedule adherence, and issues.
  • Document carryover work, job delays, or site challenges.
  • Assist estimator by providing feedback about job challenges that affect production
  • Assess discrepancies of what work is being requested from what work was estimated and communicate with field manager in a timely manner.
  • Respond to communication from dispatch, field manager and estimator about field activities in a timely manner. (utilize headsets)
 
  • Client & Quality Focus
  • Act as point-of-contact for site-level client interactions. 
  • Follow standard operating procedures for changes of scope of work.
  • Assess what is important to customer and tailor order of tasks to meet demands as needed. 
  • Leave work area in a satisfactory, professional condition when work is complete. 
Qualifications
  • CDL Class A license required
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in concrete sawing, core drilling, or demolition
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate/maintain equipment
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs+ and work in variable weather conditions
  • Safety-oriented, dependable, and team-focused
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
