Summary of Position
The Machine Operator – Scrap is responsible for supporting the processing and shipment of goods and services by the proper picking, storage, stocking and restocking of materials and supplies utilized. The Machine Operator – Scrap is expected to perform their responsibilities in an error free manner while completing required paperwork and computer data entries associated with service center production processes. The Shift Schedule is Tuesday - Saturday.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilities expected of the Machine Operator – Scrap position. These duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change as the needs of the organization require.
  • Operate briquette (puck) machine, adjusting as necessary to maximize output.
  • Operate coolant recovery system.
  • Ensure bins are marked correctly for segregating alloys and ensure that additional empty bins/ gaylords are available for 2nd and 3rd shift prior to end of day.
  • Pull and stage materials according to the bill-of-lading, as well as create BOL.
  • Maintain daily paperwork for scrap material processing.
  • Perform cycle counts.
  • Prepare and pack items for shipments according to customer specifications and delivery dates.
  • Load and unload material from delivery trucks.
  • Enter gathered data into computer system and generate tags to be placed on the appropriate material.
  • Perform dock audits to ensure the correct material is shipped to the customer.
  • Obtain proof of identity from carriers and the appropriate signatures on the bill-of-lading. Work efficiently while picking and restocking materials.
  • Ensure stock tags and material identifications are correct.
  • Performs daily cycle counts.
  • Prepare and pack items for shipments according to customer specifications and delivery dates.
  • Load and unload material from delivery trucks.
  • Drive fork truck through the plant to move material, bins, and skids to designated areas, safely.
  • Strive to meet all customer expectations.
  • Adhere to safety rules, regulations, and quality standards.
  • Adhere to all handbook policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to measure using different tools
  • Ability to read and calculate numbers and data
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction
  • Operate with high integrity, maintaining positive relations with co-workers, customers, and suppliers
  • Strong work ethic; self-motivated
  • Forklift experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • One or more years of warehouse experience
  • Minimal ability to troubleshoot machinery.
