Job description

Position Summary
PICA Product Development is seeking an experienced and motivated SMT Second Shift Supervisor to lead our Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing operations during second shift. This position is responsible for overseeing daily production activities, managing team performance, ensuring quality standards are met, and improving efficiency throughout the SMT process. The ideal candidate has strong SMT manufacturing experience, leadership skills, and the ability to troubleshoot production challenges while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support SMT production personnel during second shift operations.
  • Coordinate daily production activities to meet customer delivery requirements, quality standards, and productivity goals.
  • Provide leadership, training, and guidance to SMT operators, set up technicians, and inspection personnel.
  • Monitor SMT processes, including setup, programming, printing, placement, reflow, inspection, and troubleshooting.
  • Review production schedules and adjust resources to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure proper setup and operation of SMT equipment, including feeders, printers, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts for equipment issues, process concerns, and production defects.
  • Work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Materials teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Monitor first article inspections and ensure compliance with workmanship standards.
  • Ensure employees follow established procedures, work instructions, ESD requirements, and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate production records, monitor performance metrics, and communicate shift updates.
  • Assist with employee training, performance feedback, and development.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient manufacturing environment.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of experience in SMT manufacturing or electronics assembly.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SMT processes, including solder paste printing, component placement, reflow, inspection, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with SMT equipment setup and operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, drawings, schematics, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with production tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Mycronic pick-and-place equipment and programming.
  • Experience with AOI, X-Ray inspection, and SMT process controls.
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of ESD requirements and electronics manufacturing best practices.
