Lead Construction Estimator - Data Center and Healthcare Construction - Base Salary to 200k/year - Birmingham, AL

  • Our client is a rapidly growing engineering, manufacturing, and construction firm specializing in complex commercial construction projects including healthcare facilities, mission critical environments, and data centers. They are seeking a Lead Construction Estimator to support preconstruction and estimating efforts for large-scale commercial projects throughout the United States.
  • This role will lead estimating activities, pricing strategy, subcontractor coordination, value engineering efforts, and client-facing preconstruction support to help ensure accurate and competitive project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead estimating and preconstruction efforts across assigned commercial construction projects and programs
  • Develop conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP estimates
  • Prepare and review detailed cost estimates, bid packages, scopes of work, and pricing exercises
  • Lead subcontractor outreach, bid coordination, scope analysis, and price leveling activities
  • Perform cost analysis, budgeting, and risk assessments throughout the preconstruction process
  • Lead value engineering efforts to improve project cost, constructability, and schedule performance
  • Coordinate with internal design, engineering, operations, supply chain, and finance teams
  • Track design scope changes and communicate impacts to project budgets and schedules
  • Develop project schedules, work plans, and preconstruction deliverables
  • Support contract negotiations, proposal development, and client presentations
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and clients
  • Support handoff of preconstruction information to project management and operations teams
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating systems, databases, processes, and reporting tools

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in the construction industry
  • 3+ years of experience in preconstruction and estimating
  • Experience estimating commercial construction projects within healthcare, mission critical, and/or data center environments
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, building systems, and project cost structures
  • Experience managing subcontractor bidding, scope review, and pricing analysis
  • Experience coordinating with operations, design, engineering, and project management teams
  • Proficiency with estimating, scheduling, and construction project management software
  • Experience preparing conceptual and detailed construction estimates
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience supporting client-facing meetings and presentations

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 180k – 200k/year range or higher depending on experience
