Job Summary
We’re looking for a Special Process Metal Worker to perform grinding, blending, polishing, sandblasting, and rework operations on aerospace castings. This role is responsible for removing surface imperfections, preparing components for subsequent manufacturing processes, and ensuring castings meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.

Shift: 1st shift, Monday-Friday 5:00am-1:00pm
What You’ll Be Doing
- Grind, blend, polish, and finish aerospace castings to meet engineering and customer specifications.
- Operate pneumatic and power hand tools, including die grinders, belt sanders, buffing equipment, and sandblasting equipment.
- Remove parting lines, burrs, scratches, excess metal, and other surface imperfections.
- Review routers, work instructions, and Inspection Method Requirement Sheets (IMRS) before beginning work.
- Perform visual evaluations of castings and identify areas requiring repair or weld attention.
- Conduct rework activities associated with visual inspection and fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI).
- Select and utilize the correct abrasives, burrs, stones, and sanding materials to achieve required surface finishes.
- Document inspection findings, rework activities, and production status on routers and related documentation.
- Identify and properly disposition non-repairable castings.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Manufacturing, metal finishing, grinding, polishing, casting, or related experience preferred.
- Ability to clearly communicate in English, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding work instructions.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and finishing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify surface defects and quality concerns.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, specifications, routers, and engineering requirements.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently while following established procedures.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Nice to Have
- Experience in aerospace, foundry, casting, machining, or metal finishing environments.
- Experience with grinding, blending, polishing, or sandblasting operations.
- Experience performing visual inspections or repair activities.
- Familiarity with FPI processes or aerospace quality requirements.
- Experience using abrasives, carbide burrs, mounted stones, and polishing tools.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing environment with moving equipment, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and loud noise levels.
- Regular sitting, reaching, and use of hands for detailed finishing operations.
- Ability to stand and walk periodically throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly, up to 25 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment required for inspection and finishing activities.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, hand protection, and safety-toed shoes.
