SUMMARY OF JOB
The role of the Genetic Counselor is assisting patients and their families to understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of the genetics related to inherited diseases. This role includes; Interpretation of family /medical histories to assess the patients chance of disease occurrence or recurrence, providing education with respect to inheritance, testing, management, prevention, resources and research as they relate to breast and other oncology patients, and to provide counseling to promote informed patient choices and/or adaptation to the risk or condition (as per the National Society of Genetic Counselors). This individual is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Genetic Program at Holy Redeemer Hospital, facilitating a support group for individuals and families with inherited predisposition to cancer, and conducting health promotion and awareness programs in the community. Services and counseling provided by the Genetic Counselor will conform to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Facilities (ERDs).

RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an accredited program in genetic counseling
Current licensure to practice in the State of Pennsylvania
Master of Science Degree in Genetic Counseling
Demonstrated experience in the area of Inherited Cancer Susceptibility syndromes preferred
Membership in the National Society of Genetics Counselors or similar Professional organization is preferred
Proficient in use of personal computer programs including word processing and data management programs
LICENSE AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
