What is an 18 server?

An 18 Server is a restaurant server who is at least 18 years old, which is often a legal requirement to serve alcohol in many states. Their primary responsibilities include taking orders, serving food and beverages, answering customer questions, and ensuring guests have a positive dining experience. In some locations, being 18 allows servers to handle and serve alcoholic drinks, unlike younger servers who may be restricted from these duties. This makes 18 Servers valuable in establishments that serve alcohol, as they can provide full service to all guests.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a server, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Server, you need strong customer service skills, basic math abilities, and familiarity with food and beverage safety regulations; a high school diploma is often preferred. Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems and knowledge of food handling certifications such as ServSafe are commonly required. Outstanding communication, multitasking, and teamwork skills help Servers excel in fast-paced environments. These abilities ensure efficient service, satisfied customers, and smooth restaurant operations.

What are the most common challenges servers face in a high-volume restaurant, and how can they manage them effectively?
