What does a 15 hours a week job mean?

A '15 hours a week' job refers to a part-time position where an employee is scheduled to work approximately 15 hours each week. These jobs are common among students, parents, or individuals seeking supplemental income who cannot commit to full-time employment. The exact schedule may vary by employer, but such positions often offer flexibility in terms of workdays and times. Benefits and pay rates for 15-hour-a-week jobs can differ, and some positions may not include benefits typically offered to full-time employees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time employee working 15 hours a week?

To thrive as a part-time employee working 15 hours a week, you generally need time management skills, reliability, and relevant experience or education for the specific role. Familiarity with the company's tools or software, such as point-of-sale systems or office applications, is often required. Strong communication, flexibility, and a positive attitude help you stand out and integrate effectively with full-time staff. These skills ensure productivity, smooth team collaboration, and the ability to adapt to varying schedules and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges when working a 15 hours a week position, and how can they be managed?

Working a 15-hour-per-week role often requires strong time management skills, as your limited hours mean you must prioritize tasks efficiently to meet goals. Balancing multiple part-time roles or personal commitments alongside this job can also be challenging. Communication with your supervisor about expectations and deadlines is key to ensuring your contributions make the most impact. Many people in these roles find it helpful to set a consistent schedule and use productivity tools to stay organized.

Job Description

Canada Post is an exciting place to work! And you can be part of it!

We deliver billions of items to Canadians each year - and you can play an integral role in making this happen. As online shopping grows, we have a number of opportunities for Class 3/D professional drivers with an appropriate provincial Air Brake Endorsement to be part of our dynamic team. As a temporary, on-call Mail Service Courier, you will join a team of drivers who are available to work locally on short notice. All drivers have an equal chance of being called for work. You will use a corporate vehicle to pick up and deliver mail and load/unload postal vehicles, ultimately playing an important role in ensuring customer satisfaction.

Does this sound like you? The role of Mail Service Courier would be a great fit if you:
 are a safe driver
 enjoy being behind the wheel
 like working on your own
 can meet deadlines
take pride in serving your community

Job Responsibilities

What will you do?

You will load and unload postal vehicles while keeping mail and Canada Post property safe and secure at all times
You will collect, sort and deliver mail
You will operate portable communications devices
You will perform vehicle safety checks

Job Responsibilities (continued)

You will complete documentation and maintain records
You will communicate with customers and the public
You will shuttle corporate delivery vehicles between parking location and loading platforms to facilitate pre-loading.

Qualifications

What must you have?
A valid Class 3/D driver's licence (or higher)  with the appropriate provincial air brake endorsements
A safe driving record for at least 3 years (recent driver's abstract or a commercial driver's abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required)
The physical ability to lift mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lb)
The availability to work on short notice

This would help, too!
 Experience in customer service
Experience as professional driver in commercial delivery
Experience driving a 5 ton truck or larger

In return, we offer:
 Competitive pay
 On-the-job training
 Opportunities for permanent employment
