Location: Columbia, MO 65201
Department: Surgical Services – CVOR
Schedule: 4x10s, 06:45 AM – 05:15 PM (40 hours/week)

About the Role

An experienced RN First Assistant is needed to join a high-acuity CVOR team on a day-shift contract assignment. This role is ideal for a cardiac OR nurse who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment, brings advanced first-assist skills, and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care throughout complex cardiac and vascular procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct first-assist support to CVOR surgeons for procedures including CABG, MVR, TAVR, AVR, and carotid endarterectomies.

  • Perform open and endoscopic vein harvesting, assist with endoluminal AAA repairs, and support thoracic surgical cases as needed.

  • Manage intraoperative tasks such as hemostasis, wound exposure, suturing, tissue handling, and use of surgical instruments and devices.

  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, perfusion, and OR staff to ensure safe, efficient case flow and optimal patient outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate and timely intraoperative documentation, adhering to all regulatory, facility, and professional standards.

  • Support call requirements (approximately 10 days/month) and holiday coverage as scheduled.

  • Utilize the facility’s EMR system (Meditech) for documentation and coordination of care.

Required Qualifications
  • Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of Missouri.

  • Current ACLS certification.

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of recent CVOR or RNFA experience.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in cardiac and vascular surgical procedures, including vein harvesting.

  • Strong technical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to function calmly and effectively in high-stakes situations.

  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team, with a strong focus on patient safety and infection control.
