CAPTAIN - 100 Ton (MOB-2026-25842):

Bowhead Marine Support Services is accepting resumes for a Captain toย operateย aย 41'ย utility boat conducting operations in the Gulf of America.ย ย Positionย is located inย Dauphin Island, Mobile County, Alabama.

Responsibilities

LOCATION: Vesselย departsย and returns from Dauphin Island, Alabama (Mobile County). Due to the mission requirements for this task order, ONLY local Mobile County residents capable of responding/arriving to assigned dock locationย in a timely mannerย will be considered.ย 

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:ย 

  • Monitors preparation of vessel and equipment.ย 
  • Ensures safety of the crew.ย 
  • Ensures safe and effective operation of the vessel.ย 

Bowhead Marine Support Services isย seekingย fullย timeย Captains to support ship readiness and operations for the US Coast Guard's Aviation Training Center (ATC). The ATC's mission is to train and produce mission-ready aircrews and develop aviation capabilities. Involves shipboard operations, rigging for helicopter operations, and deck seamanship. Bowheadย operatesย the M/V Solomonย and M/Vย Saavgaq. classified as aย 41'ย UTB a former Coast Guard utility boat.ย Individual should have stability under pressure andย have the ability toย withstand the stresses associated with the job's physical demands; potentially hazardous situations; and unpredictable weather.ย ย 

Captainsย essential duties:ย 

Safety of crew and vessel.ย 

  • Ensures safety equipment isย utilizedย andย appropriate guidelinesย and all applicableย SOP'sย are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials.ย 
  • Knowledge of shipboard safety procedures and use of all firefighting and safety equipment, highly desired.ย 
  • Participate in meetings, training,ย drillsย and safety audits asย required.ย 
  • Other duties as assignedย 
Qualifications
    • USCG Merchant Marine Master's license 100 ton or greater,ย required.ย Plusย TWIC card.ย 
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating twinย inboard powered vessels greater thanย 40 feet in lengthย required.ย 
    • Local residentย ofย ย Mobileย County preferred due to location of vessels and mission activity.ย 
    • Military experience preferred. Coast Guard or Navy experience highly desired.ย 
    • Ability toย multi taskย between multiple helicopter pilots,ย monitoringย current and any approaching weather, ability to log entries into ships log, manage boat operations from dock to dock, keep PM informed on any developing situations.ย ย 
    • General PC knowledge requiredย including;ย spreadsheet software, word processing software and knowledge of MS Office Suite.ย 
    • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.ย 
    • Individual should have stability under pressure andย have the ability toย withstand the stresses associated with the job's physical demands, potentially hazardous situations, and unpredictable weather.ย 

    Physical Demands: The work environment varies and includes, but is not limitedย to:ย dock, port, bay, waterways, office space, equipment rooms, warehouse space, construction zones, and outdoor environments. Work hours may fluctuate outside of normal duty hours. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is:ย 

    • Regularly required to sit, use hands to handle, move,ย manipulateย or feel objects, talk and/or hear.ย 
    • Frequently required to stand and/or walk and routinelyย requiredย to reach with hands and arms.ย 
    • Routinely required to stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or squat.ย 
    • Frequently lifts and /or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds.ย 
    • Occasionally lifts and/or moves 75-100 pounds with theย assistanceย of deckhands and/or heavy lifting equipment.ย 

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship isย required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement ifย necessitatedย by business needs or contractual obligations.ย
