Overview
THE ROLE

The Position: The Material Handler will transport materials, supplies, and finished products to designated locations.
Responsibilities
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Receives, distributes, and stores products as directed in designated, secure locations.
  • Prepares and maintains records of materials received and shipped including dates of transactions, locations, and other pertinent information.
  • Reviews shipments for quality and accuracy; reviews accompanying documents for accuracy.
  • Confirms shipping details or special instructions; expedites shipments that affect the manufacturing process schedule.
  • Transports and loads materials, supplies, and finished goods (manually and/or using hand trucks and skids).
  • Optimizing loads to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Securing loads to machine before transportation.
  • When problems arise, resolves issues with contractors or vendors.
  • Manages inventory by utilizing RFGen scanning equipment.
  • Identifies and reporting workplace safety hazards.
  • Maintains cleanliness of assigned area and surrounding areas.
  • Works closely with leaders and other employees in a team environment.
  • Must obtain valid fork truck license and certification within first 30 days of employment.
  • Collects and properly disposes of scrap bracing, cardboard, and strapping; maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Follows all Great Dane safety requirements when transporting loads and otherwise.
  • Ensures fork truck safety inspection sheet is completed daily.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)
  • Employee must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Employee must be able to remember how to perform multiple tasks from day to day.
  • Employee must be able to perform the physical requirements listed in that section of this job description.
  • Employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum and be efficient in use of all supplies.
  • The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a way they meet or exceed the required production level.
  • 1-2 years of previous fork truck experience preferred.
  • 1-2 years of previous experience working with a scan gun preferred.
  • Ability to work with hands.
  • Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
  • Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good math skills.
  • Efficient time management skills.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Office and plant environment.
  • Keyboarding, lifting, standing, bending, walking.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-10 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push and pull.
  • Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in an 8-to-10-hour shift.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
