Job description

This compensation is $18.00 to $19.00 an hour.

What you will be doing:

  • Inexperienced benchmen start learning to work safely in the saw production environment
  • May set up and operate alternately more than one type of machine or tool
  • Use hammers ranging from 2#-8#, stretcher rolls, plate leveling machines, gauge grinders and hammer grinders etc.
  • Ability to use hammer without damaging the saw
  • Set-up and operate all available machine tools
  • Perform progressive operations on work involving close tolerances or unusual requirements
  • Perform quality checks
  • Wear PPE
  • Perform complex operations in support of production under limited supervision
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Use calipers and micrometers, must understand fractions and decimals
  • Read industrial knife blueprints
  • Complete Statistical Process Control Charts (SPCs) for all assignments
  • Perform quality checks
  • Forklift Certified (or able to become certified)
  • Load and unload steel from machines
  • General cleaning and maintenance of machines and area
  • Work with a high sense of urgency
  • Wear all required PPE
  • May be required to provide support and training to others
  • Active participation in Lean and Safety Training
  • Must cross-train to other positions as requested
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • 2+ years manufacturing production experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Vocational trade school or equivalent program a plus
  • Demonstrated lean techniques and ability to meet TAKT times
  • Ability to work as part of a team, with behavior that upholds company values and standards
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Promote safety in the workplace and adhere to the safety standards of the company
