Job description

Our client is seeking a Quality Control Mechanical Engineer to join a high-performing project team delivering complex industrial and manufacturing construction projects. This field-based opportunity gives you a hands-on role in maintaining quality across mechanical installations while working alongside experienced project, engineering, construction, and commissioning professionals. The successful candidate will help ensure projects are built correctly the first time and are ready for safe, efficient turnover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field quality control inspections for HVAC systems, industrial/process piping, plumbing systems, instrumentation, and mechanical controls, verifying work aligns with approved mechanical drawings, construction specifications, and project requirements.
  • Review P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment schedules, and equipment documentation to establish inspection requirements and support Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), including hold point and witness point inspections.
  • Inspect piping fabrication activities, including pipe fit-up, welding inspection, pipe supports, valves, equipment connections, pressure testing, piping flushing, piping cleaning, and NDE/NDT; coordinate third-party and client witness inspections as required.
  • Identify and track Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and punch list items, working with subcontractors and project personnel to resolve deficiencies and maintain construction progress.
  • Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, system walkdowns, functional testing, startup activities, and mechanical turnover packages while maintaining complete inspection reports, test records, checklists, material documentation, and quality records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent field experience may be considered.
  • 3–7 years of experience in mechanical construction, QA/QC, field engineering, commissioning, or a related discipline, preferably within industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical codes and standards and established mechanical inspection practices.
  • Ability to interpret construction documentation and translate technical requirements into practical field inspection activities.
  • Experience supporting commissioning requirements and project turnover requirements on complex construction projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic construction/document management systems.
  • Strong technical documentation and coordination abilities with project managers, superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, and client representatives.
  • Welding inspection credentials, EIT certification, PE-track engineering status, or other applicable industry certifications are a plus.
