Job description

Student Assistant 1 - HCS

An hourly student worker position in the Integrated Forage Systems Extension Lab. This student will report to Dr. Emma Matcham, and most job duties will be in-person in the Columbus, Ohio area. Hours can be flexed around class schedules, although we do ask that all applicants have at least 4 hours of availability per week between 7am and 5pm on weekdays. The hired student will be primarily responsible for formatting pasture management recordkeeping and decision support tools for an ongoing Extension project. Other duties will include editing blog posts and helping edit website content. An ideal candidate would have experience with MS Office, Adobe, Drupal or a related website platform, and experience with crop or livestock production. This position does not require field and site visits, but joining the lab for field data collection and Extension is an option if candidates are interested in gaining experience with the fieldwork that precedes Extension material creation. All members of the lab are expected to work effectively in groups and individually. Student workers are not expected to collect data at remote field sites without assistance from others, but they may work independently while on campus or working remotely.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with Emma Matcham to edit and format documents for printed recordkeeping and decision support tools (60% of job duties)
  • Edit other communications, such as blog posts and newsletters (10% of job duties)
  • Help manage website content, including photos and videos (20% of job duties)
  • Other duties related to data summarization, printing, filing, taking meeting minutes, and other short-term lab needs (10% of job duties)
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to work on campus at least 4 hours per week
  • Valid US driver's license
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word
  • No minimum years of experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Copyediting experience
  • Website editing experience
  • Knowledge of agronomic crop production systems
