Job description

Job Overview

This unique Software Engineering Product Manager position is accountable for the Real Estate and Alternatives Asset Management application bundle in FIT (Finance & Investments Technology) BSA. It includes a market leading external‑facing custom website instrumental to managing our real‑estate investment portfolio and a SalesForce implementation that facilitates the new deal pipeline for alternative investments. The role is highly visible and plays a key part in sustaining Nationwide’s financial strength.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect data and technology solutions from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Partner with leaders to ensure a viable total cost of ownership and ongoing health and wellness of applications.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of application suite roadmaps by evaluating business needs, competitive landscape, technology currency, and information security considerations.
  • Manage risk‑mitigation controls and provide support for internal and external audits.
  • Support the engineering build of the application suite and non‑technical efforts for the products.
  • Represent the voice of the customer; act as a forward‑facing member of a portfolio‑management team in the advocacy of business‑case development, planning, financial management, and portfolio evaluation.
  • Hire and develop talent; provide consistent coaching and feedback.
  • Ensure delivery availability and resiliency following established operating mechanisms and best practices.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Technology Director or above and leads a team of five or more technology professionals.

Education and Experience

Undergraduate studies in management information systems, engineering, math, computer science, or comparable experience and education are preferred. Six years of experience in application‑suite management with four years or more leading numerous teams across multiple technologies is required.

  • Detailed understanding of the systems development life cycle and modern methodologies, practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Solid understanding of project‑delivery concepts including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Ability to develop and implement roadmap strategies.
  • Proven decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience in coaching and career development of a team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship‑management skills.
  • Ability to interface with multiple levels of business partners while influencing without authority.
  • Background in managing multiple IT assets across various technology stacks, working with IRM and I/O partners.
  • Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering and Agile practices.
  • Knowledge of operational and build metrics.
  • Strong learning agility and ability to learn on the fly.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information.
  • Capacity to deliver on tight delivery timeframes.
Work Arrangement

Hybrid schedule with in‑office presence in Columbus, Ohio two days per week. Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to Columbus, Ohio.

Work Authorization

This role does not qualify for employer‑sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

Salary Range
  • National salary range for Manager, Software Engineering Product Manager: $118,000.00–$222,000.00.
  • Expected starting salary range: $118,000.00–$178,000.00.
