Description

The Tank Washer Lead is responsible for leading daily tank wash operations, ensuring the safe, thorough, and compliant cleaning of liquid tanker trailers. This role oversees wash bay personnel, coordinates workflow, and performs hands-on cleaning to meet both company and regulatory standards. The Tank Washer Lead plays a key role in promoting a clean, safe, and efficient work environment while ensuring tankers are properly prepared for the next load.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Tank Cleaning Operations

  • Perform interior and exterior cleaning of liquid tanker trailers in accordance with customer specifications, DOT, and company standards.
  • Operate and monitor cleaning equipment including pumps, hoses, steam units, and high-pressure washers.
  • Inspect tankers post-cleaning to ensure compliance with wash requirements, including cleanliness, odor control, and residue removal.

Leadership & Workflow Coordination

  • Assign daily tasks to tank wash team members and ensure proper execution of cleaning schedules.
  • Train and support wash bay employees on cleaning procedures, safety practices, and equipment use.
  • Monitor work quality and ensure timely turnover of clean trailers.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all OSHA, EPA, DOT, and internal safety protocols related to tank cleaning and confined space entry.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of wash bay equipment.
  • Maintain accurate wash records and documentation as required by regulatory agencies and customers.

Facility & Equipment Maintenance

  • Conduct routine inspections of wash equipment and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized wash area, including proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals.

Administrative & Other Duties

  • Complete logs and documentation for all wash services performed.
  • Communicate with dispatch or operations regarding trailer status and availability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in tank washing or industrial cleaning operations.
  • Prior leadership experience in a shop, wash bay, or industrial setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with tanker cleaning procedures, chemicals, and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated platforms using appropriate safety measures.
  • Must possess a valid State-issued identification.
