Job Description Summary

This role is responsible for providing 24×7 onsite data center support, including physical infrastructure assistance, environmental checks, equipment handling, vendor coordination, and response to monitored facility alerts. The position supports both planned and unplanned maintenance activities while ensuring tasks are completed safely, accurately, and within defined service levels.

Key responsibilities include performing hands-and-feet support for approved onsite tasks, conducting visual inspections, verifying power and facility conditions, monitoring security and environmental systems, coordinating third-party access, maintaining operational logs and checklists, and escalating issues as appropriate. The role also includes support for emergency power, UPS, battery, generator, fire alarm, and facility-related systems to help maintain operational continuity and data center readiness.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 24×7 onsite Hands & Feet support through rotational shift coverage
  • Execute only approved onsite physical tasks as instructed
  • Conduct power checks, visual inspections, and physical status verification
  • Own OS configuration, logical troubleshooting, backup, and storage policies
  • Execute onsite actions and update service tickets within agreed SLAs
  • Ensure timely physical task execution aligned to defined SLAs
  • Perform visual inspections and guided basic hardware fault isolation
  • Coordinate and escort third-party vendors for onsite activities
  • Support both planned and unplanned onsite maintenance activities
  • Monitor Data Center camera systems for security and operational awareness
  • Check liquid cell battery fluid levels (UPS batteries)
  • Verify emergency gas shut-off valves operational state
  • Check glycol levels for CRAC units
  • Inspect EPO buttons for functionality & accessibility
  • Inspect raised floor areas for hazards/abnormalities
  • Review leak detection systems for alerts/failures
  • Place Data Center systems into bypass mode when storms are approaching
  • Reporting & Documentation (checklists, logs, audit evidence)
  • Remove bypass mode and restore systems to normal operation once conditions are clear.
  • Generator systems - Respond to alerts generated from NADC-monitored systems. Take any Simplex calls to keep fire department from responding and coming out.
  • Emergency power systems -Respond to alerts generated from NADC-monitored systems. Take any Simplex calls to keep fire department from responding and coming out.
  • Normal power systems - Respond to alerts generated from NADC-monitored systems Verify normal power is available before coming off generation power.
  • UPS room - Respond to alerts generated from NADC-monitored systems. Take any Simplex calls to keep fire department from responding and coming out.
  • Battery rooms - Respond to alerts generated from NADC-monitored systems. Take any Simplex calls to keep fire department from responding and coming out.
  • Maintenance rooms - Respond to alerts generated from NADC-monitored systems. Take any Simplex calls to keep fire department from responding and coming out.
  • POP rooms - Respond to alerts generated from NADC-monitored systems
  • Provide oversight (Checks and Balance) when disarming the fire alarms
  • Receive deliveries for equipment and more
  • Check cleaning crew in and open Janitor closet

Skills Needed

  • Ability to perform hands-and-feet support tasks, including equipment checks, cabling support, physical inspections, and guided hardware troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with power, UPS, generator, battery, cooling, fire alarm, leak detection, and environmental monitoring systems.
  • Strong attention to detail when completing checklists, logs, audit evidence, ticket updates, and shift handoff documentation.
  • Ability to follow approved procedures, safety protocols, change instructions, and escalation paths without deviation.
  • Good communication skills for coordinating with internal teams, vendors, facilities staff, service providers, and emergency contacts.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, provide 24×7 coverage, and respond to planned or unplanned onsite support needs.
  • Strong situational awareness and judgment when monitoring facility conditions, security cameras, alarms, and system alerts.
  • Basic incident response and service ticket management skills, including accurate status updates and timely escalation.
  • Physical ability to safely inspect equipment areas, access raised floor spaces, receive deliveries, escort vendors, and support onsite maintenance activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a data center, network operations center, facilities operations, or IT operations support environment.
  • Familiarity with service management tools for incident, request, change, and task tracking.
  • Experience working with vendors, managed service providers, facilities teams, and third-party maintenance providers.
  • Knowledge of data center safety practices, access control procedures, escort requirements, and emergency response processes.
  • Ability to read and follow runbooks, maintenance instructions, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Experience documenting operational evidence for audits, compliance reviews, maintenance records, or shift logs.
  • Strong reliability, professionalism, and accountability in a role requiring onsite presence and timely response.
