The Digital Media Specialist supports the district's strategic communications through digital storytelling, multimedia production, and content creation, with a focus on the district's social media, website, and DCS Today news platform. This role captures, produces, and shares compelling stories that highlight the experiences, achievements, and culture of Dublin City Schools students and staff.

The Digital Media Specialist creates engaging content across multiple formats, including photography, video, audio, reels, short-form social media content, and written news stories. The position requires strong visual storytelling skills and the ability to produce high-quality horizontal and vertical video content optimized for digital platforms.

This role supports the ongoing management of the district website and DCS Today by keeping content timely, relevant, engaging, and accessible. The Digital Media Specialist actively seeks out meaningful stories across the district and works in a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on creativity, quality, accuracy, and responsiveness.

The position also provides training and support for building-level social media managers to help ensure brand alignment and effective digital engagement practices. In addition, the Digital Media Specialist mentors and collaborates with high school student interns involved in communications and digital media projects.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, digital media, marketing, broadcasting, public relations, or a related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in digital media, communications, journalism, social media, or multimedia production
  • Demonstrated experience creating digital content for social media, websites, and multimedia platforms
  • Strong photography, videography, and audio production skills using DSLR cameras, smartphones, and other digital capture devices
  • Experience editing horizontal and vertical video content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Nextdoor
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Audition, After Effects, etc.), Canva, and related editing tools
  • Experience managing website content using content management systems such as Finalsite or WordPress
  • Excellent writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills across written, video, and audio formats
  • Ability to work quickly and independently while maintaining high standards for quality and accuracy
  • Understanding of social media trends, analytics, platform algorithms, and audience engagement strategies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong visual storytelling and content creation abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to identify and develop compelling stories that showcase students, staff, and district initiatives
  • Proficiency in photography, video production, lighting, audio capture, editing, and multimedia storytelling
  • Knowledge of social media best practices, trends, platform optimization, and audience engagement
  • Ability to create content in multiple formats, including reels, short-form video, long-form video, graphics, news stories, and podcasts/audio clips
  • Strong understanding of website content strategy and digital publishing
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and collaborate with student interns and emerging communicators
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to school-based social media managers to strengthen content quality, brand consistency, and digital engagement practices
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple schools and departments
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, administrators, and community stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and proactively seek out storytelling opportunities
  • Professionalism to collaborate with the Superintendent, board members, staff members, volunteers, and students
  • Flexibility to attend district events during evenings and weekends as needed
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA digital accessibility standards and digital best practices is a plus

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Capture and produce high-quality photo, video, audio, and written content that highlights district programs, events, students, staff, and school culture
  • Create and publish engaging digital content for social media platforms, DCS Today, the district website, newsletters, and other communication channels
  • Produce and edit horizontal and vertical video content, including reels, interviews, highlight videos, promotional content, and short-form social media videos
  • Maintain and update website and DCS Today content to ensure information is timely, accurate, engaging, and accessible
  • Collaborate with schools and departments to identify and develop meaningful storytelling opportunities across the district
  • Manage and support the district's social media presence through content planning, publishing, monitoring, engagement, and analytics
  • Provide guidance and support to district and building-level social media managers to promote consistent branding, messaging, and digital communication practices
  • Coach and mentor high school student interns involved in communications and digital media projects
  • Support district communication campaigns, events, livestreams, podcasts, and crisis communications efforts through multimedia storytelling and digital promotion
  • Stay current on emerging digital media trends, storytelling techniques, social media platforms, and communication tools
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned in support of district communications and engagement goals
