Pump Truck Operator - Industrial


Location|Columbus, Ohio


Position Summary


The Pump Truck Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining equipment used within the Excavation and Industrial Division. This role supports a variety of industrial service operations including hydro excavation, septic and grease trap pumping, sewer cleaning, and equipment transportation.

The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, customer-oriented, and capable of working in demanding environments and flexible schedules.

Compensation

$22.00 - $30.00 per hour
Compensation is based on experience and qualifications.



 Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Safely operate company equipment including: 

  • Pump trucks 
  • Hydro-vac trucks 
  • Jet-vac trucks 
  • Dump trucks 
  • Equipment hauling trailers 

Perform industrial service work including: 

  • Grease trap pumping 
  • Septic tank pumping 
  • Hydro excavation and digging 
  • Sewer and storm drain jetting/cleaning 

Transport heavy equipment such as: 

  • Track hoes 
  • Backhoes 

Complete all required daily documentation including: 

  • Service tickets 
  • DOT vehicle inspection reports 
  • Disposal and manifest records 
  • Inspect vehicles, tools, and equipment to ensure safe and proper operation 
  • Set up and dismantle excavation equipment and job sites 
  • Operate high-pressure water and vacuum systems safely and effectively 
  • Maintain compliance with all DOT, OSHA, and company safety regulations 
  • Deliver excellent customer service by communicating professionally with customers and team members 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned 

 Schedule & Work Conditions


This position requires a flexible work schedule and may include:

  • Nights and weekends 
  • On-call rotations 
  • Overtime 
  • Holiday work 
  • Work during inclement or extreme weather conditions 

Employees should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team in physically demanding environments.

Requirements

 Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old 
  • High School Diploma or GED required 
  • Valid Class A & B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required 
  • Ability to pass: 
    • Pre-employment drug screening 
    • Random DOT drug and alcohol testing 
    • Criminal background check 
    • Motor vehicle record check 

Required Knowledge & Skills


Candidates should have knowledge of:

  • Safe driving practices 
  • Traffic control and job site safety 
  • Confined space entry procedures 
  • Trench and excavation safety 
  • Hydro-vac excavation around utilities 
  • Safe handling of pressurized water systems 
  • Vacuum hose and tubing safety 
  • DOT compliance requirements 

Employees must also maintain accurate records and documentation for operational and billing purposes.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements


This position involves working both indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including:

  • Extreme heat and cold 
  • Wet, dirty, confined, or dark spaces 
  • High-noise environments 
  • Sewer and drainage systems 
  • Areas with fumes, dust, odors, and hazardous materials 

Employees may be required to:

  • Climb ladders 
  • Use hand and power tools 
  • Wear PPE and respiratory protection 
  • Perform excavation work 
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures 
  • Work around moving equipment and elevated areas 
  • Operate pressurized and electrical equipment 

Additional Requirements:


All employees operating company vehicles must maintain a driving record that meets the company's insurance standards. Maintaining eligibility to operate company vehicles is a fundamental requirement of this position.
