Job description

Hamilton Tanks is looking for a skilled blaster to abrade steel tanks to remove adhering scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting media. A successful candidate will be able to examine the finished material to ensure conformance to quality specifications. The blaster will report directly to the shop supervisor.

Essential Functions:

*Performs a variety of tasks which may include but is not limited to the following physical demands

*

  • Cleans grease and dirt from products.

  • Shovels or pours abrasives sand, grit, or steel shot of specified grate into a hopper

  • Inspect, start & maintain equipment that delivers blast mediums as well as regulate pressures that produce a safe and efficient environment.

  • Removes rust from metal surfaces with blasting agents by directing nozzles appropriately and/or using scrapers, brushes, or abrasive papers

  • Standing for over 8 hours a day

  • Lifting and carrying 50 pounds

  • Pushing and/or pulling 50 pounds

  • Walking on variable terrain (loose gravel, concrete flooring, asphalt)

  • Turning/twisting/bending at the waist

  • Forward and overhead reaching

  • Ability to wear respiratory protection for over 4 hours a day

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required

  • Experience as an abrasive blaster or in a related field, preferred

  • *Knowledge of a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures or willingness and ability to train on other equipment and/or processes

  • Working knowledge of manual sand and grit blasting machines, materials, processes, and practices

  • General knowledge of hand tools (chipping hammer and wire brush) and power tools (grinder, belt sander, palm sander)

  • Able to continuously demonstrate safe work practices

  • Visual acuity and peripheral perception of 70 degrees

  • Ability to pass background check, drug test, fit for duty test, and Respirator Fit Test (Pulmonary Function Test)
