Job Title:Research Development SpecialistDepartment:Public Health | Health Services Management and Policy

The Research Development Analyst will contribute to efforts to support health policy research and programming at the College of Public Health and to build interdisciplinary connections to other units on campus and with researchers at other institutions.

The Research Development Analyst will work under the supervision of Professor Micah Berman and will have responsibilities that include (1) designing and coordinating educational events and programming, (2) developing applications for grants and other funding opportunities, and (3) supporting ongoing research projects and co-authoring reports and studies relating to health policy.

The selected candidate will work alongside a dynamic team of scholars, engage in innovative project development, and participate in boundary-spanning research activities.

**This position is contingent upon funding and will end on or before August 1, 2027, with possibility of renewal based on continued availability of funding and performance.**

Additional Information:

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4 years of relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (MPH, MPA, or MHA) or law degree (JD).
  • 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proven ability to work collaboratively in team settings and to establish new partnerships.
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Previous experience in health, healthcare, or technology policy is preferred but not required.

Pay Range: $81,800-$95,000 annual estimated base salary

Salary will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.

Essential Job Duties

  • Designs and coordinates public events for the Ohio State community (university-wide) and the public, including by managing the annual Midland Lecture and the Loebs Health Policy & Management Discussion Series. Develops concepts for events, invites and coordinates with speakers on both logistics and content, and manages event promotion.
  • Develops and facilitates campus-wide meetings and discussions among Ohio State faculty to plan interdisciplinary health policy collaborations. Creates and coordinates topic-specific working groups.
  • Contributes to planning both the substance and logistics of new academic programming, including (a) courses and internship programs that expose students to how health policy in developed and implemented in Ohio and nationally, and (b) new inter-professional education (IPE) opportunities involving Masters of Health Administration students.
  • Collaborates with leaders of student groups such as the Association of Future Healthcare Executives, maintains strong relationships with other academic units and offices on campus, communicates with health policy organizations, and collaborates with advancement and alumni relations staff to support program development.

  • Manages and participates in preparation of applications for grants another external funding. Such duties may include drafting proposals for internal (Ohio State) funding opportunities, identifying external (e.g., foundation or governmental) grant opportunities, identifying and coordinating faculty experts interested in submitting grants on health policy topics, conducting background research to be included in grant applications, and working with research offices at the college and university levels to facilitate grant submission and award management.

  • Authors white papers and creates infographics that support the dissemination of Ohio State health policy research to a wider audience.
  • Collects and analyzes data to support interdisciplinary health policy research collaborations. This may, for example, require collecting and identifying relevant data from publicly-available sources.
  • Co-authors manuscripts resulting from interdisciplinary health policy research collaborations for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
