Job description

Design and deliver cloudnative platforms for product intake, communication, and collaboration as part of an agile engineering organization.
You're a seasoned technical leader ready to own portfolioscale challenges and elevate engineering excellence-and we have an exceptional opportunity for you.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate Technology team, you will shape architecture and drive delivery across the firm's stateoftheart technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You'll set technical direction, lead complex initiatives endtoend, and mentor engineers across teams, ensuring consistent design standards, robust operational practices, and measurable business outcomes.

In this role, you'll join an agile engineering organization building and operating three firmwide platforms-Feature Request, Convey, and TechTube-that streamline product intake, customer communication, and knowledge sharing across the organization. You'll take ownership of one or more product teams within this portfolio while influencing crossplatform strategy, architectural decisions, and the full SDLC to deliver scalable, cloudnative capabilities that improve transparency, collaboration, and value delivery for product teams firmwide. Given the common technology stack, crossteam contribution is expected, and you'll frequently lead initiatives spanning multiple products.

Job responsibilities

  • Own portfoliolevel architecture and technical strategy across one or more platforms (Feature Request, Convey, TechTube), ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient solutions across the SDLC.
  • Lead complex technical initiatives-from discovery and design through delivery and operations-establishing engineering standards, reusable patterns, and reference implementations for crossteam adoption.
  • Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to translate business goals into measurable technical outcomes, define roadmaps, and drive transparency through product metrics and KPIs; Champion agile practices including shared backlog ownership, crowdsourced prioritization, and communitydriven product development, advocating for technical excellence and sustainable engineering; Mentor and grow engineers (junior through senior), conducting design reviews, code reviews, and handson guidance on best practices, system design, and implementation approaches.
  • Design and implement complex, cloudnative software solutions with clear ownership of upstream/downstream integrations, including Jira integrations, notification workflows, serverless architectures, and API extensions.
  • Write secure, highquality, welldocumented code across multiple languages and frameworks (e.g., Java Spring Boot, React.js, GraphQL, Python) while modeling bestinclass engineering practices.
  • Architect and build backend services, GraphQL APIs, and modern React UIs; ensure thoughtful API design (GraphQL and REST) and robust clientserver contracts.
  • Set and enforce nonfunctional standards (security, performance, availability, observability, cost efficiency), including SLOs/SLAs, error budgets, and automated quality gates in CI/CD.
  • Evaluate and introduce new technologies, tools, and approaches to improve developer experience, platform quality, and delivery velocity; lead proofs of concept and guide adoption; Promote securebydesign and privacyaware patterns, threat modeling, and proactive risk identification to meet firm standards and industry best practices.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • 5+ years of experience in API software development (Java Spring, Python FastAPI)

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS (e.g. ECS/Fargate, SNS, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3)
  • 3+ years of experience with relational databases
  • Experience in deploying cloud services using Infrastructure as Code
  • Proven expertise in distributed system design (AWS stability, resiliency and security)
  • Proven capability of application architecture and technical leadership, as well as elevate current practices and operations
  • Strong experience developing, debugging, deploying and maintaining code in large enterprise environments

  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and guide architectural decisions

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, as well as experienced in aligning technical decisions to business outcomes and product strategy.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Exposure to React
  • Experience with AI/ML including vector database
  • Exposure to GraphQL
  • Experience with CockroachDB, Aurora Postgres and DynamoDB
  • Exposure to video streaming, content management, or media platforms, including performance and caching strategies.
  • Familiarity with email servers and SMTP protocol
  • Strong background in observability and performance optimization (metrics, logging, tracing), and cost governance for cloud workloads.
