Job Summary: Senior Java Developer (GCP) - Contract | Columbus, OH (Remote/Onsite) About the Role Join a high-performing engineering team as a Senior Java Backend Developer focused on building scalable, secure, and resilient microservices on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Collaborate with technology leaders to deliver enterprise-grade APIs and event-driven cloud-native applications using cutting-edge Java technologies. Gain exposure to modern DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and observability tools while driving impactful business solutions in a dynamic and innovative environment. Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud - Architect and implement cloud-native applications leveraging GCP services such as GKE, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Run - Build event-driven systems with Apache Kafka, Confluent Cloud, and asynchronous messaging patterns - Integrate with MongoDB Atlas, SQL databases, and enterprise data platforms ensuring high availability and scalability - Develop, optimize, and automate CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Terraform - Apply Infrastructure as Code principles to manage and deploy cloud infrastructure - Implement robust testing strategies including unit, integration, contract, and performance testing - Ensure observability with centralized logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and GCP tools - Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, architects, and business partners to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable solutions - Mentor team members and advocate for best practices in application architecture and cloud-native development Required Skills and Experience - 7+ years software development experience building enterprise applications and APIs - 5+ years Java development with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Maven, and Gradle - Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) - Proficient with Docker, Kubernetes, GKE, and microservices architectures - Strong background in building event-driven integrations using Apache Kafka, Confluent Cloud, or Pub/Sub - Experience with MongoDB Atlas and SQL/NoSQL database design - Expertise with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins), GitHub, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) - Proficient in distributed systems, resiliency, scalability, and performance optimization - Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and cross-functional collaboration Preferred Skills - Experience with Google Cloud services: Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Monitoring & Logging, Cloud Build, Cloud SQL - Professional Cloud Developer or Architect certification (Google Cloud) - Knowledge of API gateways, service mesh, and advanced observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog) - Experience in financial services or high-volume transaction systems - Familiarity with OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, Zero Trust security architectures Benefits - Opportunity to work with modern cloud technologies and drive enterprise digital transformation - Exposure to complex, large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native design patterns - Collaborative, fast-paced, and innovative work environment - Competitive contract compensation - No face-to-face interview required; remote candidates considered How to Apply Ready to join an expert team and accelerate your cloud engineering career?
