Job Purpose

Corporate Affairs is at the forefront of managing critical relationships with key stakeholders, including engagement with policymakers, community leaders, non-profits, workforce partners, and DEI collaborators. It is responsible for implementing government relations strategies and leading corporate communications to increase internal awareness of Honda’s business direction and enhance Honda’s reputation.

This role is responsible for overseeing local community relations activities surrounding our state specific and surrounding regions. The Government & Community Relations Specialist will play a pivotal role focused on Honda’s external presence in these local communities. Key functions include relationship management with community stakeholders and government officials, representing Honda at events, evaluating community engagement and branding opportunities, supporting public policy objectives, and ensuring company leaders remain informed of local matters. This role will serve as a key conduit that bridges Honda to local communities, in alignment with Honda’s overall strategies and priorities.

Key Accountabilities

External community relations activity

  • Build strong, trusting relationships and understanding of community needs with key
    external community stakeholders across the designated region. Stakeholders
    include non-profit organizations, government officials, community leaders, area
    businesses, and industry partners
  • Represent Honda externally at local events and meetings with key external
    stakeholders
  • Monitor, respond and report on local economic and community developments and
    issues
  • Collaborate with Engagement, Public Relations and Corporate Communications,
    Charitable Giving, and other Honda Business Units on relevant topics,
    relationships, and policies
  • Support local Corporate Affairs engagement event staffing, as needed
  • Provide site tours to stakeholders
  • Represent Honda in public speaking roles at the local and state levels
  • Monitor and communicate state and local public policy developments that may
    impact Honda operations or reputation
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Five to Seven years of experience in Corporate Affairs, Community Relations, Government Relations, external community organizations or similarly relevant work
  • Ability to represent Honda in a professional manner, including speaking at public events
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of the local community and government operations
  • OEM or other corporate/trade association experience
