Job description

?RV FARM TECHNICIAN:

  • Part Time hourly/administrative position for the RV Food Service Department
  • The ideal candidate would be an agriculture and education minded individual with good verbal and written communication skills that is not afraid to get their hands dirty
  • This person will work with a group of 3 to 4 other Farm Technicians to continue to create a positive space and environment for student learning
  • The hourly rate depends on experience and follows the Farm Technician pay scale
  • Flexible work schedule but must be available February through November
  • The position may require some evening and weekend events throughout the year (anticipate less than 12)
  • Anticipated start date: Immediately

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Work with the Food Service Administrative team on crop planning and planting schedule to ensure harvest time aligns with food service needs
  • Tend to the needs of the farm from seed to harvest
  • Track daily processes including but not limited to pesticides, pests, rodents, weeds, produce handling, and the HACCP Plan
  • Help create and play an active role in community engagement events within our school district (4 per year)
  • Play an active role in local community events related to farms, fresh foods, and produce
  • Help create and lead successful events and our annual Summer Camp programs
  • Submit monthly purchase requests for equipment and supplies to the Food Service Director
  • Track planting and harvesting yields throughout the year
  • Monthly farm/produce education sessions in classrooms
  • Involvement in every-other-week Wellness Club meetings at the Middle School with 6th Grade (after-school club)
  • Marketing our farm progress & Farm to School Program through social media
  • Communicate weekly with the Food Service Director at weekly meetings
  • Meet the yearly professional development training requirements as they are assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director
  • Partner with teachers to help support farm and food curriculum

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable of Good Agricultural Practices (G.A.P. Certification)
  • State and Federal background checks required
  • Meet all other employment requirements for River Valley Local Schools
