Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Quality Inspector. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, Ohio.
This role supports Battelle's Applied Science and Technology group, where our team is involved in the conceptual design, development, and manufacturing of armored commercial vehicles and other prototype work. The selected candidate will play a key role in ensuring product quality across fabrication, welding, and assembly processes by performing inspections, supporting quality engineering, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
As a Quality Inspector, the selected individual will perform hands-on inspections of complex fabricated parts and assemblies while supporting quality engineering and mentoring team members. Responsibilities may include:
  • Performs inspection of complex fabricated parts using hand tools such as calipers, height gauges, tape measures, micrometers, and angle gauges
  • With input from engineering, develops inspection instructions for complex fabricated parts and assemblies
  • Mentors other QA staff in inspection techniques and procedures
  • Inspects welded parts to defined quality standards
  • Performs in-process and final visual and functional inspections of products to defined criteria
  • Reports on quality trends to quality engineering to ensure containment and may recommend corrective measures to address identified issues
  • Supports quality engineering in investigating supplier and assembly issues and may recommend corrective measures
  • Records and recommends preliminary disposition of nonconforming material in an electronic system
  • Identifies and helps support the implementation of improvements to safety, efficiency, and quality
  • Supports activities such as the calibration program, internal audits, or safety program
  • Maintains inspection records for review
  • Works under general guidance from management

Key Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with quality inspection of complex fabricated parts
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings, inspection procedures, and work instructions
  • Working knowledge and understanding of measurement methodologies and techniques
  • Ability to use fixtures and measurement tools to set up parts and perform inspections
  • Experience using an electronic enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to transact materials into and out of Quality and to research part status inquiries
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a US government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working within an ISO 9001 quality production environment
  • Experience working within the US military or US defense contractor environment
  • Experience and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector
  • Experience using a FARO arm to perform inspections

Compensation Data
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $60,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
