Power to Hydrogen is seeking a skilled and motivated Prototyping/Fabrication Specialist to join our team and help commercialize our next generation Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) Electrolyzers. The Prototyping/Fabrication Specialist will be responsible for fabrication of production equipment, test stands, prototypes and products along with ensuring our facility, its systems and equipment are maintained and working properly. This role requires a versatile fabricator and problem-solver who is comfortable building mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems, rapidly iterating designs, and ensuring prototypes are functional, safe, and test-ready. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, thrives in a startup environment, and bridges the gap between design and reality. The Prototyping/Fabrication Specialist will work closely with our Research, Electrode, Stack, and System teams to build and maintain the infrastructure that makes our work possible.

Responsibilities

Prototype Fabrication & Assembly

  • Manage fabrication area, ensuring proper tools and equipment are labeled, organized, available and maintained

  • Assist with pressure testing, leak checks, and initial commissioning of assemblies

  • Build and integrate mechanical, electrical, and fluid subsystems for prototype electrolyzers, test hardware, and supporting production equipment.

  • Translate CAD drawings, schematics, and design concepts into physical systems.

  • Select, source, and modify components (valves, pumps, fittings, sensors, etc.) for rapid prototyping.

Rapid Iteration & Problem Solving

  • Modify and adapt prototypes based on testing feedback and evolving requirements.

  • Identify practical solutions when off-the-shelf parts don’t fit requirements.

  • Support design-for-manufacturability improvements through hands-on insights.

Testing & Validation Support

  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to set up test stands and validate prototype performance.

  • Integrate instrumentation, wiring, and data acquisition systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair systems during testing to minimize downtime.

Production Equipment Development Support

  • Assist in the design, fabrication, and setup of pilot-scale production equipment and tooling.

  • Support development of repeatable assembly and integration processes.

  • Provide feedback on process improvements to improve efficiency, safety, and quality.

  • Help transition prototype methods into scalable production practices.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure prototypes meet functional goals.

  • Provide input on prototype design and assembly methods.

  • Document build processes, modifications, and lessons learned for future development cycles.

Facilities Management

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on facility equipment including HVAC, compressed air systems, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and general building systems

  • Respond to maintenance requests from staff - fixing, replacing, or escalating issues as appropriate

  • Maintain and organize the tool room, consumables inventory, and spare parts stock

  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for larger maintenance or repair work; be on-site to supervise as needed

  • Support facility safety compliance - fire extinguisher checks, eyewash station inspections, spill kit restocking, and similar recurring tasks

  • Assist with shipping and receiving, including loading/unloading of equipment and materials

Desired Qualifications/Skills

  • 3+years of hands-on experience in a maintenance, fabrication, or general trades role

  • Proficiency with hand and power tools; comfortable working in a light industrial/R&D shop environment

  • Ability to read basic engineering drawings, sketches, or isometric diagrams

  • Experience with one or more of the following: plumbing/pipe fitting, basic electrical, HVAC maintenance, welding or metal fabrication

  • Basic MIG or TIG welding skills

  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious

Preferred
