Job description

Description
The DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at DENISON UNIVERSITY invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position starting in fall 2027, with expertise in or related to analytical, computational, inorganic, or materials chemistry. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level and the ability to develop a robust, independent research program that recruits and engages undergraduates to produce published research. Teaching responsibilities include classroom and laboratory instruction at the introductory level, intermediate level (analytical, inorganic, physical, or polymer chemistry), and an advanced course in the candidate's field of expertise.
Our department's ACS-accredited program offers degrees in chemistry and in biochemistry and has excellent classroom and laboratory facilities with a broad range of available instrumentation for both teaching and research. See our website (denison.edu/academics/chemistry-biochemistry) for more information about our faculty, program, and facilities.
Denison University is an academically rigorous and nationally ranked residential liberal arts college, located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, the state capital. The thriving Columbus metropolitan area offers a wide range of opportunities for dual-career families, includes excellent school systems, and hosts an array of cultural and artistic events (columbusregion.com).
Denison offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. The college provides generous annual professional development funds, strong support for student and faculty research, a one-semester pre-tenure sabbatical, and a number of mentorship and professional development workshops and programs. Contributions to the life of the department, the institution, and the larger community are an essential part of fulfilling Denison's mission, and the successful candidate is expected to engage in service activities in a way that is congruent with their work as a teacher-scholar.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. and subsequent research experience are required. The priority date for full consideration is September 14, 2026.
Application Instructions
Applicants should submit the following:
1) a cover letter addressing their motivations for teaching at a small, residential, liberal arts college;
2) curriculum vitae, including a publication list;
3) undergraduate and graduate transcripts;
4) a statement of teaching philosophy addressing approaches to classroom and laboratory courses at the introductory and intermediate level, and a new course in their specialty;
5) a statement detailing the applicant's proposed research program (5 page maximum).
In their materials, applicants should discuss how their teaching and research mentorship will foster the engagement and success of students who have varying backgrounds and interests. Applicants are encouraged to include how they will incorporate rapidly evolving technological tools (such as data analytics, cheminformatics, machine learning, or generative AI), highlighting how such tools will be leveraged to benefit teaching and learning, research, or students' career readiness and, if relevant, any existing or potential connections with industry, government, or non-profit sectors.
