Job description

Department:

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

We seek candidates whose research focuses on coupled multiphysics behavior relevant to design and analysis of advanced aerospace systems. Areas of particular interest include extreme-environment structures, fluid-thermal-structural interactions, thermal-structural-material interactions, hypersonic systems, advanced propulsion systems, additive manufacturing for aerospace structures, large-scale multiphysics test environments, multiphysics diagnostics, and computational or experimental methods for characterizing and predicting structural response in severe operating conditions. Candidates whose research integrates applied artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and related data-driven approaches for extracting physical mechanisms, accelerating modeling and simulation, advancing diagnostics, or fusing multimodal and multifidelity experimental and computational data are especially encouraged to apply. 

The successful applicant is expected to establish a vibrant research program, including the ability to attract significant Federal funding and industrial partnerships that complement the existing capabilities of the Aerospace Research Center at Ohio State and expands MAE departmental strengths in aerospace structures.

Performance Objectives  

  • Develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized and externally funded research program in their technical fields.??? 
  • Teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise student and postdoctoral research.? 
  • Participate in service to the university (internal) and the non-university (external) research community. 

Education and Experience Requirements 

Required

  • Ph.D. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline (to be received by May 2027) 
  • Evidence of research productivity and potential to secure external funding? 
  • Research potential for scholarly impact, innovation, and collaboration? 
  • Ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral scholars? 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with desire and ability to work constructively, and collegially with external and internal colleagues and interdisciplinary teams 
  • Ability to work independently: proactive self-starter with strong project leadership skills 
  • Evidence of innovative thinking with a willingness to share ideas and continuously learn.?
