What You’ll Do

As a Plumbing Apprentice Trainer, you will spend most of your time in the field, training apprentices on real jobs while reinforcing best practices, code compliance, safety, and quality workmanship. You will be a hands-on leader who helps apprentices grow from day-one basics to job-ready performance.

Hands-On Apprenticeship Training

  • Reinforce high standards for craftsmanship, cleanliness, and customer professionalism
  • Provide daily coaching, feedback, and correction to develop confidence and independence
Skill Growth & Progress Tracking
  • Evaluate apprentice performance regularly (quality, speed, safety, communication)
  • Track skills and progress toward milestones required for licensing readiness
  • Identify training gaps and create improvement plans to strengthen weak areas
  • Help prepare apprentices for journeyman-level knowledge, expectations, and exams
Field Leadership & Team Support
  • Partner with foremen, service managers, and journeymen to place apprentices on the right jobs for development
  • Support consistent training across Columbus field teams
  • Address performance or behavioral concerns early and professionally, partnering with leadership/HR when needed
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning
Requirements:

Safety & Code Compliance

  • Train apprentices to follow OSHA standards, Ohio plumbing codes, and Haven Services & The Waterworks safety expectations
  • Ensure proper PPE usage, safe tool handling, and jobsite safety practices
  • Lead by example with a safety-first mindset and quality-focused execution

  • 5+ years of hands-on plumbing service or install experience
  • Experience mentoring apprentices, helpers, or new hires (formal training experience is a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems (copper, PEX, DWV), installation methods, and Ohio plumbing code basics
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to coach with patience and accountability
  • Strong organization and ability to track progress and skills development
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license with an insurable driving record
  • Comfort using basic digital tools (phone/tablet, training checklists, apprentice tracking tools)
