Job description

Scrum Master

Location: Columbus, Ohio Hybrid-2 days onsite Duration: 6 months+ Visa: USC, GC, GC-EAD Interview: Phone/Zoom

Qualifications: They must be considered a Jira SME and have their PSM

5+ years of technology project delivery experience and 2+ years of experience as a practicing Scrum Master with:

  • Knowledge and demonstration of agile values, principles, and the Scrum framework
  • Experience demonstrating and coaching others in the areas of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and transparency
  • Knowledge and application of Lean concepts and principles
  • Knowledge of forecasting team budget burn and project budget spend
  • Knowledge of release planning and forecasting, aligning delivery expectations with all stakeholders
  • The ability to apply a wide variety of patterns and techniques to enhance agile frameworks (for example: Burn down and burn up techniques, various Retrospective formats, team Daily Scrum patterns, etc.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal continuous improvement, utilizing self-directed learning and other techniques
  • Excellent communication skills with experience engaging personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification from scrum.org
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems Management and/or Business Administration

Responsibilities:

A NiSource Scrum Master will:

  • Guide the team and organization on how to use agile values, agile principles, and agile framework practices to delight customers and build a culture of trust, respect, simplicity, courage, transparency, and agility
  • Guide the team on self-organization to fill in the intentional gaps left in the agile frameworks
  • Strive to form the team into one cohesive group where members succeed and fail together
  • Assess the agile health of the team and organization and coach the team to higher levels of fluency at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization
  • Create and maintain a roadmap for team effectiveness while recognizing the readiness of the team for new team and technical practices and while helping the team adopt them
  • Conduct retrospectives on a regular cadence and execute on the outputs to help the team and organization improve by instilling a culture of continuous improvement
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised and questions asked without fear of blame, retribution, or judgement with an emphasis on healing and problem solving
  • Support and educate the Product Owner/Business Lead especially with respect to refining, ordering, and maintaining the product backlog
  • Provide support to the team using a servant leadership style and leading by example with a focus on operating from personal responsibility and demonstrating the organization's culture concepts
  • Educate and coach on role expectations – Product Owner, Team Members, Customers, Managers
  • Remove impediments and guide the team to remove impediments to enable the team to progress
  • Ensure the team is staffed and set up for success and escalate as needed
  • Facilitate completion of tasks without coercing, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Radiate helpful information to the team and stakeholders outside the team including ensuring that the Visual Management Board and other information radiators are kept current, and can report progress of the team anytime, to anyone
  • Focus on results achieved instead of effort expended
  • Celebrate wins regularly with the team and stakeholders
  • Promote an environment of innovation and courage, where new ideas are explored and failures are treated as learning experiences
  • Challenge the status quo to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the team and organization
  • Know and communicate team capacity, and ensure team forecasts are realistic and sustainable
  • Maintain a consistent cadence to enable the team to experience flow and provide predictability to the organization
  • Demonstrate and uphold team working agreements
  • Exhibit a forward-thinking, can-do attitude and an aptitude to embrace change and improve the processes of the team on a daily basis
  • Guide and support the planning and coordination of deployments and releases
  • Ensure required artifacts are delivered and meet expectations
