Directions for Youth amp; Families (DFYF) provides community-based mental health, prevention, and education services using a resiliency-oriented and trauma-informed approach. Our programs support youth and families through specialized mental health services, kindergarten readiness initiatives, afterschool programming, and summer enrichment opportunities.
Each year, DFYF proudly serves more than 6,300 youth, adults, and families throughout our community. Across all programs, we are dedicated to fulfilling our mission of building and inspiring hope, healing, and resilience through counseling and education.
Position Overview
DFYF is seeking an energetic, creative, and dependable individual to join our Afterschool team as a part-time Recreation Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning and leading recreational and fitness programming within a structured afterschool environment for youth ages 8–18.
The Recreation Coordinator will create engaging activities that promote teamwork, sportsmanship, communication, physical wellness, and positive youth development.
Responsibilities Include
  • Planning and facilitating recreational and fitness activities for youth
  • Leading structured activities such as basketball, volleyball, football, soccer, and other group games
  • Developing age-appropriate lesson plans and activities
  • Supervising groups of up to 10 youth participants
  • Promoting positive behavior, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Maintaining a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment
  • Completing required daily documentation and program records
  • Collaborating with program staff and participating in team meetings and special events
Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a health, fitness, recreation, education, or related field preferred
  • Experience facilitating fitness or recreational activities with youth required
  • Ability to engage and motivate children and teens in a positive manner
  • Basic computer and documentation skills required
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance required
Schedule
Afterschool Program
Monday–Friday: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Summer Program
Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Occasional team meetings and special events may require schedule flexibility.
