Remuneration: Non-Exempt
The Solar Farm Technician II is responsible is responsible for safely installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing solar systems to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The role supports continuous power generation by independently diagnosing and resolving technical issues, collaborating with team members, and contributing technical expertise to ongoing operations and improvement initiatives.
Role Responsibilities:
  • Leads and performs solar operations and maintenance activities safely by applying site procedures, job hazard analyses, and lockout/tagout practices to protect personnel and equipment; requires independent risk assessment and sound judgment
  • Demonstrates and enforces proactive safety leadership by identifying, mitigating, and reporting hazards and near misses while coaching team members on safe work practices; requires observation, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ensurse compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements by interpreting regulations, verifying field adherence, and correcting non-compliant conditions to minimize operational and regulatory risk
  • Independently maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs solar systems, including modules, inverters, combiner boxes, LBDs, trackers, and electrical infrastructure, to ensure system reliability and availability; requires advanced electrical and mechanical expertise
  • Diagnoses and resolves complex technical issues by analyzing SCADA data, alarms, electrical measurements, and performance trends to identify root causes and implement corrective actions; requires analytical thinking and data interpretation
  • Serves as a technical escalation point by coordinating with Site Leads, Site Mangers, and Engineers to resolve high-risk or system-level issues while minimizing downtime; requires technical judgment and effective communication
  • Plans and executes preventive and corrective maintenance activities by prioritizing work orders, estimating labor and materials, and sequencing tasks to optimize efficiency and system performance; requires planning and problem-solving skills
  • Leads inspections, testing, and commissioning activities by verifying system performance, workmanship, and compliance with design specifications and industry standards; requires precision and technical accuracy
  • Maintains accurate technical documentation and records by completing and reviewing SAP Word Orders, and inspection findings to support compliance, audits, and asset site management; requires attention to detail
  • Mentors and guides associate and trainee technicians by providing hands-on instruction, technical oversight, and safety coaching to improve team capability and work quality; requires leadership and training skills
  • Represents the company in a professional manner with contractor and vendor relations, as well as during partnership opportunities within the community
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Requirements and Experiences:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited US school other than correspondence or internet preferred; certification in renewable energy technology or electrical systems preferred
  • NABCEP Certfication or Electrical License preferred
  • Unrestricted driver license in good standing
  • Minimum 3 or more years of relevant technical experience, preferably in the renewable energy industry
  • Strong working knowledge of solar PV systems, including inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, LBDs and SCADA systems
  • Independently perform preventive and corrective maintenance with minimal supervision
  • Troubleshoot and resolve moderate technical issues, including inverter and performance faults
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics
  • Apply safety protocols, conduct hazard assessments, and perform LOTO procedures in compliance with OSHA standards
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Must be competent in power plant safety protocols as well as electrical and environmental safety policies and procedures
  • Must be competent in understanding the NEC
  • Ability to routinely operate a computer/tablet and other office productivity machineries, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Ability to complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
  • Must be coachable and adaptive to new technologies and methods
  • Must take ownership of responsibilies and look beyond the work task, with regards to discovering new opportunities for corrective work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel to assigned job sites as needed

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines, and evolving schedules
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.

Work Environment:
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors at a solar farm and includes exposure to varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and direct sunlight
  • The role involves working around electrical and mechanical equipment and requires strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE
