Employment Status: Regular/Part-time

Probationary Period: 120 work days
Description: Assists teachers with classroom and other duties

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or higher
  • A valid educational aide certificate
  • Alternative to the above qualifications, as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

Essential Functions:
  • Supervise the cafeteria during lunch, classrooms, computer facilities, etc., during periods of time when the teacher is not present, and supervise bus areas when students are arriving and leaving school
  • Monitor student behavior to ensure student actions are consistent with school rules, recommend disciplinary actions, and refer students to the principal or relevant teachers when necessary
  • Resolve minor conflicts between students and refer students to the principal or relevant teachers when necessary
  • Use the copy machine to reproduce materials
  • Use laminating equipment and computers to produce materials
  • Assist with audio-visual equipment used for instructional purposes
  • Work with small groups or individual students to help reinforce or enhance skills or to help extend or evaluate learning activities
  • Work with individual students or small groups to help them with projects and other assignments
  • Assist students when using computers for programmed learning activities
  • Hang or arrange displays of student work or educational materials
  • Assist in maintaining records pertaining to students by organizing and entering data
  • Contact parents to schedule appointments and obtain information needed by the teacher
  • Assist in contacting other personnel to schedule spaces or services
  • Help arrange field trips and schedule parent volunteers
