Job description

Energy Engineer:

Go Sustainable Energy (Go) is hiring full-time or part-time curious engineers with experience and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. From these core engineering competencies, we develop expertise in energy management, energy-using systems, renewable energy, and the electric grid. We are passionate about learning how complex technical systems work so that we can offer accurate, unbiased information to our clients. We are seeking qualified engineers with two to four years' experience to join our team in Columbus or Dayton, Ohio. Engineers looking to work out of Cleveland, Ohio, will also be considered. Relevant coursework, internships, and project experience will be considered in lieu of work experience. Engineers can work a combination of in-office and at home.

If you enjoy energy systems, you are curious, you thrive when working with others, and you are passionate about applying technical solutions to environmental and social challenges, we think you could be a good fit for our team! You do not need to have all the answers, but you should want to deepen your knowledge and expertise of energy systems.

Our team continuously invests in learning; growing the knowledge and skills required to achieve a practical decarbonized society, and we offer compelling career development opportunities to do it. The goal of our work is to investigate, measure, and to support our clients' energy and sustainability initiatives. To be successful, we must invest in our client relationships and navigate the technical, economic, and cultural influences that create barriers and opportunities with a changing energy system.

Go serves leading businesses, cities, manufacturers, healthcare systems, and utilities. We consult on energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy storage, and energy management.

Does this sound like something you would like to be a part of? Complete an application.

What you offer:

  • Comfort with and interest in HVAC systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics; these should be educational courses you've taken and did well in, or have prior professional experience in
  • Enjoyment in collaborating with others, the ability to follow others but also to offer your own ideas and suggestions
  • Comfort with asking questions and receiving direct and comprehensive peer review, including critique
  • Intellectual curiosity

What's preferred:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience in the energy industry
  • Enjoyment of technical research
  • Technical report writing skill and confidence

What's required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Energy, or related engineering discipline
  • Two to four years' experience with energy auditing, commissioning, or energy management (Relevant coursework, internships, and project experience will be considered in lieu of work experience.)
  • Familiarity with industrial facilities and processes
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and design

What you'll do:

  • Technical support for large organizations' energy and sustainability initiatives
  • Industrial and commercial building energy assessments
  • High-performance building energy consulting, commissioning, and simulation
  • Technical assistance to energy-efficiency programs and corporations
  • Technical assistance for distributed energy resource and electrification initiatives
  • Energy benchmarking and baselining

How You'll Work:

At Go, we provide an environment of continuous learning and opportunities to delve into projects that will advance both your and our understanding of a particular topic. We expect our engineers to develop expertise over time and contribute meaningfully to projects with their coworkers and our clients. All our work is important and valued by our clients.

What you can expect:

  • You'll learn - We'll show you our methods with energy assessments, commissioning, distributed energy, regulatory and policy, etc. We want you to learn the process and demonstrate that you can execute on the work.
  • You'll work together - Decisions, successes, and failures are shared by teams. We'll ask you to be inquisitive and open-minded. You'll get a lot of peer review.
  • You'll earn trust – Over time, the process will click, and you'll be able to lead project teams and teach other engineers how to do the work.
  • You'll discover - You'll have moments of discovery, insights that you are part of what makes a difference to a client's decision. It is the glue that keeps us and our clients together because it's the moment we did something together that we couldn't do alone. These are the best days of work, the days we remember and tell stories about.
  • You'll lead – Once you experience discovery, you'll think less about the importance of your own achievements and more about what you can do together with others.

What we offer:

Go Sustainable Energy (Go) has a passion for understanding society's use of energy. We believe sustainable energy and technically and economically practical designs are necessary investments for the world's future and can be more effective through smart engineering. We promote this vision by investigating how energy systems work, and then providing accurate and unbiased information to our clients to help them make informed decisions on energy.

Go was started with the goal of designing a place of work where we wanted to work. That doesn't mean creating a fantasy, and it sure doesn't mean we've achieved all our aims. It does mean that every day we come in and together share the responsibility to balance all that we value, both in our work and in our personal lives. We want to be valued by our clients, to contribute effective solutions to meaningful problems, to achieve a sense of place with our coworkers, to support our individual development, to learn and be challenged, to care about our work but not be crushed by stress, and to have a high bar for everything we do. We believe all work and no play can make for bored, disengaged engineers. That's why we have Share Days, walking meetings, daily fun breaks, and occasional fun outings.

Go offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, flexible work schedule, paid time off, paid parental leave, 401(k), and 401(k) match.

At Go, we understand that to be a place where people like to work, not only do you need fun and creative programs and benefits, but you also need to consistently better yourself. To that end, Go has created a diversity, equity, and inclusion working group. This group, made up of a mix of partners, engineers, and administrative staff, helps to shape Go's policies and efforts regarding DEI for the near term and long term. Moreover, we are open to new ideas, so each team member has the opportunity to make Go a better place to work.

Go Sustainable Energy does not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, physical or mental disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.

If you'd like to join our team of experts, please complete an application.
