Summary DescriptionThe City of Grandview Heights, Division of Police, is seeking qualified candidates for the Crime Analyst position.
Job DescriptionUnder the direction of police leadership, the Crime Analyst is a newly established professional support position within the Division of Police. This role is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting crime data to produce clear, actionable reports and presentations for both internal staff and external partners. The Crime Analyst identifies crime trends, patterns, and emerging issues, providing timely intelligence to support operational and strategic decision-making.
This position works closely with investigators, patrol personnel, and command staff to assist with criminal investigations, digital evidence review, and the development of analytical and forensic reports. The Crime Analyst also supports sharing information with other law enforcement and criminal justice agencies and performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential FunctionsGather crime-related data from police reports, dispatch logs, arrest records, and other databases.
Maintain and update crime databases and records management systems.
Ensure data integrity and standardization.
Analyze trends, patterns, and series in criminal activity (e.g., time, location, type).
Identify hotspots and predictive crime zones.
Conduct spatial (geographic) analysis using GIS software.
Use statistical methods to forecast criminal activity.
Develop predictive models to aid resource deployment and crime prevention.
Evaluate the effectiveness of crime reduction strategies.
Prepare detailed analytical reports, bulletins, and charts.
Summarize findings for various audiences, including command staff and investigators.
Present findings in briefings, meetings, or courtroom testimony as needed.
Support investigations by linking suspects, crimes, and methods.
Assist in tactical operations (e.g., suspect identification, surveillance planning).
Contribute to strategic planning and policy development.
Work closely with patrol officers, detectives, and command staff.
Liaise with other crime analysts, agencies, and community partners.
Provide actionable intelligence to decision-makers in real time.
Conduct research on criminal justice topics.
Evaluate programs (e.g., community policing, crime prevention initiatives).
Stay current on best practices, laws, and technological advances.
Education & QualificationsPossession of a bachelor's degree in a criminal justice-related field.
Must have a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle license or the ability to acquire by appointment.
Must possess advanced skills using Microsoft Office 365.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure. Must be able to adapt to a variety of emerging needs, manage multiple tasks, prioritize duties, and meet deadlines.
Preferred: Two years of experience in statistics, analysis, research, or investigations with a law enforcement agency. Familiarity with social media applications, open-source intelligence, and experience using analytical software/tools and mapping tools. Related specialized training.
Must pass an extensive background check, including but not limited to a truth verification examination and drug test, and maintain security clearance.

Life Insurance:The City provides $75,000 in life insurance to all full time and permanent part time employees.

Wellness:Participation in the City's Wellness program is available to all "Benefit Eligible" employees, at no cost, and allows employees to earn up to $400 and a reduced deductible for next year.
Ohio Deferred Compensation Program:City employees can participate in the Ohio Deferred Compensation 457(b) and Ohio Deferred Compensation Roth 457.
Longevity:Employees shall receive an annual longevity payment based on completed years of continuous service with the City.
Leave Accrual: Full-Time employees are eligible to earn personal, sick, vacation and compensatory or flex time.
Personal Leave Employees earn 24 hours of personal leave per year.
Sick LeaveEmployees earn 4.6 hours per pay period.
Vacation LeaveEmployees accrue vacation based on years of public service ranging from 96 to 216 hours per year.
HolidaysEmployees receive eleven paid holidays. 911 Dispatchers receive this pay in a lump sum on an annual basis.
Paid Parental LeavePaid Parental Leave is available to full-time employees who have worked for the City a minimum of 90 days. Paid parental leave is available following birth or adoption or foster placement of a child under the age of 17. Eligible employees will be paid 100% of their regular pay for a period of two weeks following a two-week waiting period.
Sick Leave ReciprocityEligible full-time employees are eligible to cash out a portion of their accrued sick leave each year.
Pool Passes & Resident Pricing for Recreation Programs and Parks RentalsAll full-time employees are eligible to receive a pool pass to the City's Municipal Pool, subject to a small fringe benefit tax deducted through your paycheck. In addition, employees receive resident pricing on all programs and parks rentals.
Tuition and Training Reimbursement:Full-time employees who have completed their probationary period may be eligible for the reimbursement of tuition and fees for job-related education, up to a maximum of $3,500 per calendar year.
Pension Contributions:City employee earnings are not covered under Social Security, instead, contributions are made on your behalf to the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) at the rate of 14%.
Uniforms & ClothingEmployees that are required to wear a uniform will have them provided by the City. Non-Union employees that are not required to wear a uniform are provided an annual amount to purchase City logo merchandise. The amount of the annual allotment is based on position.
