Job description

What We Need YOU To Do:
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in our Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at our Central Office in downtown Columbus, Ohio.

As DMWM's newest environmental specialist, you will act as a lead worker by providing technical support, training, guidance, and direction regarding solid waste planning to staff, as well as the regulated community on requirements related to solid waste management plans, annual district reports, solid waste management district fees, state solid waste fees, and recycling and waste reduction programs.
You will take the lead for program development projects assigned to Solid Wate Planning Section, such as rule activities, research activities, and grant-seeking activities. You will also be a division coordinator for federal grant funding programs by providing technical, interpersonal, and strategic skills, financial judgements, and decision-making.
You will facilitate internal group meetings and be responsible for determining meeting logistics and agenda topics - while providing guidance, direction, and assistance with developing training material to support the solid waste management planning. You are also going to track and coordinate solid waste management plan reviews and approvals/disapprovals.

Qualifications
  • 7 yrs. relevant programmatic exp.
  • OR combination of education in environmentally focused discipline or other job-related discipline & specific programmatic experience equaling 7 yrs.
  • OR completion of undergraduate core coursework in environmentally-related discipline; AND 3 yrs. relevant programmatic exp.
  • OR 2 yrs. relevant programmatic experience as Environmental Supervisor, 85865.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
  • Note: For all positions involved in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation. New employees in OEPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.
