Job description

Job Title: Organist/Accompanist
Location: St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Victorian Village, Columbus, Ohio
Type: Part-time hourly position (non-exempt)-approximately 10-12 hours/week
Hourly Range:$15,600-$21,840/year ($25.00-$35.00/hour) depending on experience
Position Overview:
We seek a part-time organist to join our Music Ministry team in supporting our congregation in song upon
retirement of our current organist. Our church loft features an historic Barckhoff tracking action organ and a
Yamaha electric piano. The organist will:
-Provide musical support on organ and piano for the liturgies at our parish including but not limited to:
Weekend Masses (currently 2 on Sunday, 9:00 & 11:00 a.m.)
Holy Days of Obligation (usually 7 p.m.) and other liturgies as needed
Choir rehearsals (Thursday nights-7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and 30 minutes prior to Masses. Some may be
longer for special liturgies)
Weddings (right of first refusal, stipend paid, 24 weddings in 2025)
Funerals (right of first refusal, stipend paid, 3 funerals in 2025)
-Select and prepare liturgically appropriate preludes and postludes for all Masses.
-Assist in arranging substitutes during times of absence.
-Manage the use and maintenance of the historic Barckhoff organ and Yamaha piano.
-Assist the Music Director in creating an environment of pastoral care for Music Ministry and congregation.
-Include, assist, and support additional instrumentalists in playing for liturgy as needed.
Qualifications:
Required: Compliance with BCI & I background checks and completion of VIRTUS Protecting God's Children.
Education: Bachelor's degree in music is preferred or equivalent professional experience.
Experience: Minimum 3 years parish music experience or similar experience is preferred.
Job Related Skills: Proficiency in organ and keyboard skills. Familiarity with Catholic liturgical documents and
Catholic liturgy preferred. Proven administrative, interpersonal, and collaborative skills are a plus.
Language Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills are required; ability to read and comprehend
instructions.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral
instructions.
