Job description

Council Capital is a healthcare-focused private equity firm based in Nashville, Tennessee, managing over $350 million in committed capital.

We invest in lower middle market healthcare companies where we see the potential to scale purpose and performance. Our investments span control and minority positions in businesses with enterprise values between $10 million and $100 million.

What sets us apart is the Council Model—a proven framework that surrounds founders and leadership teams with a powerful combination of support: our CEO Council of seasoned operators, our Strategic Healthcare Investors who bring real‑world insight and access, and our internal Value Creation Team, focused on enabling growth through talent, systems, and strategy.

At Council Capital, we’re not just backing companies—we’re helping build enduring businesses that improve lives and shape the future of healthcare.

About ViaQuest

ViaQuest is a leading provider of behavioral health services, delivering clinical care through a network of over 800 clinicians across hundreds of locations. The company partners with skilled nursing facilities to provide on‑site behavioral health services, billing Medicare and Medicaid directly on behalf of the clinicians it places.

The behavioral health division is a high‑growth, high‑margin business with revenue of approximately $100 million and a strong track record of expansion. The company recently entered new state markets and continues to see significant demand for its services driven by favorable reimbursement trends and an aging population.

ViaQuest is backed by an experienced private equity sponsor that is committed to investing in the right leadership and infrastructure to support the next phase of growth.

The Opportunity

ViaQuest is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance organization for its behavioral health division. This is a build‑and‑lead role. The company is investing in a new finance infrastructure, and the CFO will have the mandate and authority to construct the team, systems, and processes needed to support a $100 million and growing healthcare services platform.

This is not a maintenance role. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in environments that require hands‑on leadership, operational rigor, and the ability to bring structure and clarity to a growing business. The CFO will work closely with the CEO, the private equity sponsor, and operational leadership to drive financial performance, enable strategic transactions, and position the company for long‑term value creation.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Organization & Infrastructure

  • Build, lead, and develop the finance team across accounting, FP&A, and revenue cycle management
  • Establish robust controls, financial policies, and reporting processes
  • Drive disciplined monthly close; deliver accurate, timely GAAP financials
  • Assess and restructure the team to meet business demands

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team
  • Deliver data‑driven insights for decision‑making and growth planning
  • Support evaluation of new market expansion and growth initiatives
  • Create actionable dashboards and performance metrics for operational leaders

Capital Structure & Governance

  • Manage lender relationships, covenant compliance, and financial reporting
  • Ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee timely and accurate financials for internal/external stakeholders

Operational Partnership

  • Collaborate with operations to connect financials to clinical and service outcomes
  • Drive margin improvement, transparency, and operational efficiency
  • Provide financial education, accountability tools, and performance analysis to operational leaders

Transaction Readiness & Value Creation

  • Prepare the finance function for capital events (recapitalizations, strategic transactions)
  • Lead due diligence, financial modeling, and data room readiness
  • Ensure business readiness for scrutiny by lenders, buyers, and auditors
Candidate Profile

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership in healthcare services or complex multi‑site organizations
  • Prior CFO title required at a healthcare services or multi‑site organization with P&L ownership over $75M+
  • Proven experience building or rebuilding finance functions (team restructuring, controls, processes)
  • Track record in turnaround environments; experience structuring organizations in transition
  • Experience in private equity/institutional settings, including lender management and board reporting
  • Strong technical accounting; CPA strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, revenue cycle, and multi‑state healthcare ops

Leadership & Competencies

  • Builder mentality: energized by creating from scratch
  • Operator mindset: balance strategic vision and hands‑on execution
  • Direct communicator who simplifies complexity
  • Resilient under pressure; makes tough decisions with imperfect info
  • Collaborative while maintaining financial discipline
  • High integrity, honesty, and strength to deliver tough messages
Location & Travel
  • Preferred: Columbus, Ohio (flexibility within Ohio for exceptional candidates)
  • Significant onsite presence expected in the first 3–6 months
  • Long‑term: ~50% presence in Columbus
Compensation
  • Competitive executive compensation: base salary, annual bonus (25–50% of base), and long‑term incentive tied to value creation
  • Package will be calibrated to attract the right leader
