POSITION SUMMARY:
Manage health related issues for the school district and assure compliance with health related regulations. Assist students with health
issues that impact school performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assure that student immunization and other health records are in compliance with law.
  • Assure the completion of all health screenings mandated by law or school district policy.
  • Maintain current records of students' medical problems and advise staff and parents regarding appropriate action.
  • Administer first aid to students and staff as needed, and/or direct the administration of first aid by other staff members.
  • Oversee the appropriate administration of medications at school, and the associated record keeping.
  • Examine students upon request and make recommendations to parents.
  • Train staff members in first aid and/or CPR as directed, or as required by law.
  • Train staff members, as needed, in procedures such as tube feeding, deep suctioning and catheterization. Delegate these duties to the appropriately trained people.
  • Maintain communication and a working relationship with the Union County Health Department.
  • Instruct staff regarding the procedures of the Ohio Safety and Health Administration, as required by law and school district procedures.
  • Provide health promotion services to staff; for example, blood pressure screening, wellness education and flu shots.
  • Use sound judgment, tact and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents and the community, and maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
  • Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with student nurses if needed.
  • Assist with curriculum development and the instructional program upon request.
  • Consult with parents and school staff regarding health related issues.
  • Engage in continuous professional growth, including attending training sessions as required or assigned.
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
  • Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ohio Board of Nursing license to practice as a registered nurse.
  • CPR instructor certification.
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Current OSHA training.
  • Basic knowledge of the operation of the school district and willingness to work within the system.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with school staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with non-compliant families.
  • Well developed oral and written communication skills.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
  • Vision screener.
  • Audiometer.
  • Medical supplies and equipment.
  • CPR mannequins.
  • Various office machines.
  • Computer/printer.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, communicable diseases and disorders, including lice.
  • Occasional interaction with unruly children or distraught children or adults.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather.
  • Frequent travel between school buildings, and occasional travel to workshops.
  • Some evening and summer work.
  • Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, see, hear, read, reach with hands and arms.
  • Requirement to lift, push, pull and carry various supplies and equipment, up to maximum of 25 lbs.

  • Length of Employment: One Year Limited Contract
  • Salary: Based on current classified salary schedule with appropriate experience and training
