Job description

Health Information Technician

The position involves compiling health information. Duties include reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness. You will organize medical reports for placement in files. It is important to review charts to ensure all reports and signatures are present. The role also involves typing health information forms. You will prepare charts for new admissions and fill out forms. Additionally, you will prepare requests for specific reports or certificates. Compiling and typing statistical reports such as daily and monthly census, admissions, and discharges is required. You will file reports into health information records and record information in logs. Retrieving health information records within the filing system is necessary. Providing information from health information records after determining the appropriateness of requests is part of the job. You will coordinate with other departments concerning health information records procedures. The role may involve a lot of walking. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to deal with problems involving few variables within familiar contexts. You should be capable of writing routine business letters, evaluations, or records following standard procedures. Proofreading medical reports to recognize errors is needed. You should be able to identify when medical records information is missing. Gathering, collating, and classifying information about data, people, or things will be part of your responsibilities.
