Job description

Golf Course Superintendent

Department: Athletics | Golf Course Administration

Job Description

The Golf Course Superintendent has primary responsibility to ensure the overall quality and condition of the 36-hole Ohio State University Golf Club. It is to be maintained in a manner to provide the highest level of quality and enjoyment for student-athletes, club members and guests. This position is responsible for the management and coordination of all maintenance programs and construction projects for the golf course, golf course facilities and grounds; the selection, training and supervision of the golf course operation staff; maintaining golf courses within budgetary guidelines; work with golf club staff in the coordination of events; keep abreast of current innovations in turf management and establish record keeping systems for maintenance scheduling, man-hour accounting, preventive maintenance of equipment, inventory control, pesticide applications, fertilizations, etc.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree may be desirable.
  • 5 years of relevant experience required.
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Possess a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • Minimum of five years experience in the area of golf course management and supervisory responsibility.
  • Pesticide applicator license in category 8 (turf) and category 3 (aquatics).
Desired Qualifications
  • PGA Tour, USGA, OGA, and/or NCAA experience.
  • Experience working with collegiate teams and coaches.
  • Experience collaborating with turfgrass professors with research projects on and off the course.
