Job description

Description
Take the Helm of a Multi-Location Used Truck Powerhouse
Are you a seasoned used-truck strategist with the vision to assist an entire department across 10 locations? Ohio Peterbilt, part of the Ohio Machinery Family of brands, is seeking a Used Truck Department Lead to centralize our used inventory operations, establish brand-wide standards, and drive profitability across the state (and beyond).
This is a newly revamped role with full authority over inventory decisions. We are looking for a decisive, mobile, and results-oriented professional who can balance high-level asset management with the "boots-on-the-ground" reality of a multi-branch network.
The Opportunity: Total Department Ownership
As the Used Truck Lead, you are not just a salesperson; you are the architect of our used truck strategy. You will have full accountability for the standards you implement and the authority to make critical inventory decisions for our 10-location network.
Why Lead the Ohio Peterbilt Used Department?
  • Competitive Compensation: A strong base salary with additional Performance-Driven Incentives.
  • Full Purchasing Authority: Beyond managing trade-ins, you have the authority to proactively source and buy used trucks from auctions, dealer networks, fleet accounts, and private sellers.
  • Strategic Authority: Full control over used inventory valuation, procurement strategy, and regional redistribution.
  • Robust Marketing Support: Direct access to our marketing manager and social media team to promote used inventory.
  • Elite Tech & Support: Access to internal personnel for administrative assistance and collaboration with established leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Aggressive Procurement: Source high-quality used trucks from external sources to maintain a robust and diverse inventory that meets customer demand.
  • Network Strategy: Oversee used truck flow across 10 locations, strategically leveraging regional paint, body, and detail capabilities to maximize efficiency and minimize transportation costs.
  • Valuation & Appraisal: Travel regularly across the AOR to personally review truck packages, evaluate trade-ins, and establish accurate market values based on condition, mileage, and market demand.
  • Branch Integration: Build strong working relationships with Service Managers and Regional Service Directors to ensure inventory is reconditioned to Ohio Peterbilt standards.
  • Inventory Lifecycle Management: Be accountable for inventory aging and profitability, implementing strategies to maintain healthy margins and ensure fast inventory turns.
  • Direct Sales Leadership: Maintain a personal sales pipeline while coaching and supporting the broader team to hit department goals.

Who You Are
  • A Proven Industry Leader: You have deep experience in used truck markets, including a sophisticated understanding of Class 6-8 valuations, market trends, and reconditioning.
  • A Skilled Negotiator: You can secure inventory at favorable prices from our customers, wholesalers and private sellers while ensuring target gross margins.
  • A Mobile Leader: You understand this role requires being in the field, at the branches, and in front of the inventory.
  • Data-Driven: You use market data to inform pricing and procurement decisions, ensuring our stock remains competitive and liquid.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Extensive experience in heavy-duty truck sales, specifically in the used truck arena.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and acquire high-value inventory across multiple geographic locations.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate between Sales, Service, and Executive leadership.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently across the Ohio Peterbilt network. Current Class B license is a big plus.

Standard Benefits Package
Ohio Peterbilt offers a comprehensive benefits suite, including medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, PTO, paid holidays, and enrollment in the Motus company auto plan.
EEO, Veterans & Disabled Employer, and VEVRAA/503 Federal Contractor.
